Thread: How the DEV's could make the elite medic classes, well paying.
Well, I'm a doctor/tka/pistoleer; and more often then not whether it be if im in a group or in the medic center; I get little to no tips, so I wondered how could SOE implement a better system to make it so that I can make a 'decent living' off of my medical skills; considering I either bought the stims / woundpacks myself; or made them; both of which eat up money and/or time in the long run; and the fact that as a doctor I probably heal wounds and pets faster than most of the novice medics sitting around doing 35 dmg heals and such; I would think some gratitude for my speed would be in order? Such is not the case on my server; most ive ever been tipped was 1,000 credits for resing and then healing for about 600 wound damage (woopity f'n doo) so anyways onward to what I propose to solve this;
Why not have a medical insurance terminal; if you want service, you buy medical insurance for a week for like 10,000 cr and there are different payment options; if you *ARE* insured it will show up in the doctors /diagnose or will have a *i* above their heads or a + symbol or something of that sort, if a person is insured then heres a scenario : Doctor A. Heals JimmyBob Whogotfuxxedbyatuskenwarlord for 600 wound damage; the insurance of this patient would then submit 1.5 times the amount of credits; as wounds healed. And this the weekly insurance would be unlimited to all doctors / combat medics who would like to heal the patient and get money for it (so if this patient constantly forgets to clone himself and keeps getting healed, just because he purchased a 10,000 cr insurance wouldnt make it so his insurance could only give 10k cr) I also suggest that the + or *i* above the heads be color tiered in levels of insurance; thus if someonewith HIGH insurance would have a RED cross; and red 'conning' patients would output the most cash per heal, so that they would be of higher importance and their money spent on high quality insurance wouldnt be wasted).
I suggest that the ability to take advantage of the insure become available at novice doctor / novice combat medic; since master medic really isnt deep enough skill point wise to be left with few choices of payment, whereas a doctor only has so many skill pts to take a combat class (if they wanted to) to make money; but thats sortve stupid, since some people would like to just be doctors and make money off their professions; in real life doctors make alot of money... in SWG they make less than a novice marksmen unless they wanna go grind missions; I think that should be corrected.
Needless to say that the un-insured would be dubbed as low priority and pay nothing; so it would be the doctors discretion to heal them, (Which they most likely wouldnt) and therefor it would open up a way for doctors and novice medics to get the XP they need (face it a novice medic cant heal wounds like a doctor so if a doctor is in the med center that basically means all XP is gone).
ehh just a concept to make doctors more interesting and useful.
thanks.
And if that gets instituted, well, that's a whole other can of worms that just got opened...
There is no simple solution to how to make the medical professions turn a profit. Unless you start requesting payment before providing service in healing wounds, there's no good way to do it. As a doctor, i make a healthy profit filling orders for bulk stimpacks and charging to buff people. I never ask for payment up front on healing wounds, although i tend to ignore rude peoples' requests for help. The combat medic doesnt exactly have the same avenue to walk down, although im sure that there are CM's out there with no interest in ever crafting if all they have to do is run a few extra missions to buy their meds. However, combat medics are a hybrid combat/healing class, and have no excuse for saying "i cant run missions, im a healer!" With the current state of poision, all you'd have to do is buy half decentarmor(which isnt even required...just make yourself a couple stims C before heading out and heal yourself), take a little bit of melee skill, poision your target, and simply hold out till your target dies.
The elite medical professions should not be a gateway to easy money. If you're a doctor, you should be a doctor because of the abilities of the doctor, notbecause you think you can sit on your duff and rake in the dough. The same applies to combat medics...if those wicked wounds that everyone claims are for griefing (if i were a combat medic id disease all the time...a wounded warrior is a warrior that cannot simply return to the battlefield, this is a valid tactic!) and your 500 point mind DOTs arent enough to keep you a CM, then you're in the wrong line of work!

You're getting to complicated. The money issue is simple. Especially if you don't need the experience.
You /diagnose, and tell the person "I will heal you for such and such amount of credits". if they refuse, then move on
remember, they need your service more than you need their money. sure, some medic might come and heal them for free for the XP, but it's not like that person is going to pay the medic anything.
If you truly want to make money as a doctor healing, go to the lesser populated planets/towns. your services will always be in demand, and you can charge as fit... when people are getting 5-10k per giant biz natch mission, they're usually quick to shell out a few credits for your service
