Thread: Failing When Experimenting? Try this!

So I despise crafting because of all the fails I get.. the actual grinding i don't mind.. it's the fails I mind. I don't ever really fail if I don't experiment.. so it's fenitley that which has an issue. so the other night ckilla suggested something to me I had never thought of. He told me to experiment with 2 points at a time, not all 4 or 5 or 6 at once. This has improved my results drasticly! And when i do fail the fail sometimes doesn't even effect the stats if it's the second or third experimentation!!

Yeah, ive noticed that too. Since I noticed ive been experimenting two -three points at a time which usually gives much better results.

It seems strange how if you have a Average Success using all your points, you get the same as if you had just experimented on one - two points? Its weird like that and probably needs fixing, much like having critical failed on items that have a 0% failure rate and not being able to improve item stats that have fell below 0%, even with Amazing success's.

Just takes long to experiment two - three at a time

It is true you fail less when using smaller point allocations, but your finished product will end up with a higher complexity. Now for hand made prototypes this is no big deal, but for factory schematics a high complexity will result in a slow factory run because it takes 8 seconds * complexity to create one item in a factory. Just a little info for those new to factories.

yeah i just got one. I am suprised but how everyone complans how slow factories are. I have been very happy with mine. I was like WOW 1 hour to create 40 components?? that's awsume! I mean in one saturday i could have well over 100 Stim's created (including runs for components).

I thought it was perfect. While it crafts I go on runs to get resources for the next component..

Never knew that about factories. Thanks for the info.

Guess I'm the only one around who has always experimented 1 point at a time hehe

I experment using just 1 at a time mostly. May just be me but if I was to experment with 5 or 6 points on an item then do it again with 1 point at a time Iwould get a better over all product when using one at a time.

Did not know that about the factory though hmmm

I used to hate to spend the tiem so I would dump max exp points at a time, and liek you found out this leads to more fails. I still fail a bit but I generally do 2 at a time now and 1 if I find I am failing too much.

LoL, I've always done this on the end product. Only 1 point at a time. On the components I usually just dump as much as I can in one go. It definitely lessens the aggravation of getting a critical failure on all your experimentation points.

What sucks is if you get critical failures all in a row until you've ran out of points but this hardly happens anymore ever since I've upgraded my station and tools.

I usually use the risk meter to guage how many pts to use at a time and was surprizingly shocked the first time I saw 0% risk and still had a critical failure. I have found that if you do not use more than 50% of your experimentation points per run, the chances of critical fails drastically go down. So starting with 10 experimentation points, I'll typically use 4 or less (as long as it remains 0% risk). On the next go around I'll use 3, etc.
