Thread: 12 point Doc question

I have seen everyone talking about being a 12 point doc. I have to wonder how big of a difference is it? i see people paying 1 milliion per exp point which means an investment of at least 20 million. I get buffs up 2913 powerwith 3 hour 45 min. even with the extra points you resources cap out but i would think it would take awhile to make that 20 miilion back. Any 12 point docs out there that wish they had saved thier money?

The opinion on this is as varied as there are docs. There seem to be an agreement on that the 11th point is more important than the 12th, though. Look around here in the Doc forum and you'll find plenty of opinions voiced.

Myself, I am a 10 pointer (still, after more than a year *cough*) and planning to get my 11th as soon as I find the right CAs. The 12th we'll see about...

When crafting buff packs there isn't THAT big of a difference. The one thing that is really nice is you have two extra point to toss around in your Advanced Bio Effect Controllers (more uses/higher power depending on how you like to experiment them). Then once in the packs you can change them to 89 med use packs or add another few usesper stack. On wanderhome I'm making atm 911 packs with 31 uses at 12 point.


Making the money back isn't all that hard, run money missions .. sit at the local starport and buff. Its just credits heh. I provide buff packs for all of my friends so most of them pitched in to help me get 12 point as well. I dont sell the pack and dont sit at the starport for money either. Personal use and friends usually.


It all comes down to how much you like crafting really. I like to make the best I possibly can so I bought the extra 2 points.

remember there is also a large bunch of people that use MU89 Buff packs.. So being able to experiment to MU89 gives your vendor a much larger audience, thus increasing sales

this may sound daft but what ca's can a doc use cause i see cm all the time which i guess is combat medic but can we still use these ?????

In my experience, it helps you get your med use down and charges up without sacrificing any power.

As everyone else has said, the 11th point is much more important than the 12th...


On buffs, the 11th point adds 1-2 power (on the ABEC) and the ability to drop the med use below 90 while still maxing power. The 12th point adds another 1-2 power and 1-2 charges, as well as the ability to use avian meat with really low DR and still max power and get the med use down to 90 (if the DR is low enough, it'll take 11 points to max power).


The other places where there is a difference are Stim Es, all the new meds, and anything you're making with Janta Blood. Every point helps when you're trying to make a 40-use stim E (I can make 1222/62 (40)s with 12 points, or roughly 1150/62 (40)s with 11 points), and the new meds (area cures, enhance resists) all require multiple line experimentation, so there will be a significant difference there.

Yeah I have to agree with most of what folks said in this thread. 12 points is awesome on multiple-line experimentations like buffs but on things like sub-components it does not make too much of a difference since most are single line of experimentation and you will hit your resource limit before using up all the points.

Usually you can max out the power on buffs with good materials using only 10 pts. An extra point might help get the med use down to 90 without sacrificing power. More than likely the 12th point will just buy you another charge.


If you sold your 30 charge packs for 30k and your 31 charge packs for 31k, you would only have to sell 20,000 packs to get your 20 million back. It's probably not a financially sound purchase, but for some docs it is a matter of pride to get that extra charge in no matter the cost.

On most items, it's a couple extra charges and a couple extra power. Not a huge deal. The big exceptions are:


1) 90 med use buffs. As a 10-pointer, you generally can't max out power and spend the one point needed to get MU down to 90.

2) 40 med use Stim Es. These are very good sellers and you can't be really competitive in this space with only 10 points.

That is what 12pt docs are for.


And also for your ABEC's you can max out charges and add 2 more pts to power. That also helps.
