Thread: experimentation, why does it matter how many points you spend at once?

So the other day, I'm crafting my buffs. They're all coming out 903power 11142 duration. (my personal best so far *grin*) But, my health and stamina were coming out 888power 11142 duration. Everything was 100% same materials. Ohhh-kay. So I sent voltrox a tell (he's a really cool doc), and asked him whats up. He said, how are you expermienting? Well I was doing 6-2-2. He said try 4-2-2-2. So I did. That fixed the stamina. Then I did the health, still wasn't right. Now I had 893/11142. So I did 2-2-2-2-2. That finally fixed the health. So I guess what I want to know is, whats the differnce? Why do some work at 6-2-2, some at 4-2-2-2, and some at 2-2-2-2-2. Its a pain in the butt since now the more experiments the longer to produce.

When crafting mine, I always do 2s only too. However, in a research centre city, using 2s all the way and with the same rolls each stage (say all Great for example during Strength and Stamina) - sometimes the individual packs vary.
Wasn't always like that (unless it's just random) - as I do recall a time in the past when the same rolls (e.g. again, for arguments sake all "Greats") got me the same base and same dur. More often than not, it's base that differs slightly, sometimes dur.
Strange thing. Bugs me a bit, cos I like my packs to be as spot on the same for each stat where possible.

Ok, so why can you do it that way, and I have to do it 3 different ways to get the same result? Doesn't anyone care that apparently something is wrong with the system?

Name one system in the game that theres not something wrong with and I'll give you a cookie.
It's just a calculation error of some sort, or it could be working correctly. Sometimes youll get better results with different resources experimenting in different ways. I mean...it is called "experimenting" after all

Chek is beingfacetious. He can do it that way because 8+1+1+1+1 = 12 points. For about a gazillion credits you can get the skill tapes to getidentical packs every time, too.

Yesterday I was experimenting next to the same (my in my house) 42-44 private crafting station - and THREE times it happened that I get better experimentation results with -9 tool than with +14.xx one (good expensive one I bought)!?! Does tool only increase chance of sucesfull assembly or experimenation too I thought???

the new xperimenting way has cost me alot more in resources and sub-components to get the stats that i want for my buff runs. i personally hate the way you can get great successes and 1 or 2 amazings and come up with 869 power 1 time and grrrr 850 the next. i guess i can see the reason for it, but sometimes randomness just sucks
i do 1 box at a time because i have found that if you go multiple boxes, it almost always leads to lower power buffs, or it eats up 2 many points that i want to use to lower mu and add charges.
the way i do it is 9 points to max out power, 1 to lower MU to 90 and 1 to add 1-3 charges to the packs. this usually means i need 1 amazing out of the 9 to do so. makes for quite the crafting xperience when u get many do-overs before hitting what you want.

If you spend points in small amounts you can't really use crafting foods effectively. You will fill up your stomach quickly, and I've found those foods to be very useful. I guess it just really depends on the rolls you get with each experiment. Is it possible that you just got a great success on your larger roll, but ended up with an excellent roll on one of the smaller rolls?

I am pretty sure the less points you spend per time when experimenting leads to higher item complexity. Higher complexity = longer factory time.
Let me do some searching and see if I can find the explanation to this.

That's correct. Every time you experiment, regardless of the number of points you use, it adds 1 to the complexity. Every unit of complexity is 8 seconds more per item in the factory.

Crap! I've been experimenting 1 point at a time. I seem to be getting more amazings and better packs overall. I didn't even realize that the complexity was climbing and causing my factory runs to take longer.
Good to know now. However, I am wondering whether the difference in the packs doing them 1 point at a time is worth the wait?
Time to do some testing!

Thanks for verifying that. I was looking for the post last night where it was explained in detail but could not find it.
