Thread: I heard someone say this in the med center tonight, is it true? ( surgical droids )
Someone told me tonight that they have set up surgical droids on test center that you stick stimpacks in and it heals your wounds for you. if this is not true let me know please. but if it is. you can bet that i am all against this. that will kill the doctor class big time and i think we all know it. doctors will become nothing more than a pharmacy and all the socializing in medic centers and hiring doctors to heal wounds on insane suicide missions will be a forgotten memory.
so please correct me if im wrong on this one. if it is true you can bet im not selling anyone my medpacks. i discussed it with a couple other doctors and they feel the same way.
well just to let everyone know im not trying to spread nasty rumors ( i know mods hate that ), i was just concerned when someone told me this. and i couldnt find any info on it so i thought i'd get some user knowledge to see if anyone knew anything.
i appreciate all you've said and it seems like we've got some mixed emotions. personally i dont think i can afford a factory on just the tips i make being a doctor. thats why im concerned. right now im outsourcing supplies from a friend.
but either way thats what i dont like about it is that it turns the doctor proffession into Pharmacist.. which is not why i wanted to be a doctor.
actually this never made it to the in dev posts but there was some talk about this by a developer as a possible change to droids in ordewr to get people to buy more droids...
i dont think its been seriously thought out and was one of those" well maybe if" type comments that a dev will make and people will blow out of proportion and into rumors...
but this is not the first time i have heard this rumor....
its definately not planned forthe upcoming biggie patch....
Guys, once you hit master doctor it really doesn't matter. You prolly won't sit in hospitals and heal anymore anyway. If anything this would be good for everybody. If this is true what it does is give us a market for our medicines. Which is what we really need. The more demand, the more money we get.
So wouldyou allrather have.. a: a little bit of a harder time trying to level or b: massive amounts of money because of the extremely high demand for medicines that will never go down.
Once you hit master, theres no more need for exp. If the demand for medicines never stops, then thats a constant supply of money going into our pockets. We all were complaining about not being able to get money. This should help us a lot if its true.
The way you describe it, would not be the way they'd do it in SWG. it doesn't fit in with 'the way they do things" ...if the droid does heal, it would not work like that.

I'm a doc too - IF (big IF) they do it, they'll have to do it with a cert system. And it could work well.
The level medical module could depend on your skills. So maybe a novice medic can use a level one, and you have to be a mid-high level doctor to use the level 6 module. Anyone could heal wounds with a droid they aren't certified for, but would be very ineffective. At least it could be such that the benefit above what you are certified for is somewhat negligible.
If they do it right, non-medics will be buying meds. That gives us a market for our goods.
We won't lose too much business because it would be too expensive for most players to buy the droid, batteries, buy full meds instead of tipping (or not tipping) for a heal, and waiting for their droid to actually perform the heal. They'd be much better off with tipping even the novice medic.
You also don't have the problem of people that play in off hours never having a doctor in the med center.
Of course, this all depends on it being well implemented. The DE profession is getting better, but is pretty well hosed at the moment. It also looks like they are calling for some unique funtionality to droids. Add to that the impending droid cert systesm, and there will be big changes soon. Depending on how the devs handle this, it could be that surgical droids end up as the only droids that can have medical modules, or the only droids that doctors and medics get certs for. I'd probably want to waiton shelling out 80K for that advanced medical probot, if it were me. ![]()
The pending cert system for droids is a fact, although how it is going to be implemented is just my guess.
In the 'in testing' notes under droid engineer fixes..
"Fixed a problem that prevented surgical droids from being used to heal wounds."
What this means exactly, I know not... but its there.
