Do you think it is fair for a buffed doctor to fight a an un-buffed fighter in a dueling arena??

I dunno, is is fair for someone in full composite to fight a wookie (who can have no armor)?

Is it fair for that same wookie to fight the same guy without his armor (because wookies have more HAM)?

Is it fair to fight anyone with a flamethrower?

etc. etc.

LOL sorry i should have explained in more detail. Since we as Doctor's have the abiltity to buff, shouldn't we be able to use buffs and still have a fair fight, afterall we did spend lots of skill points and time into becoming MD's. Usually when i am denied a dueling challenge it is because i am buffed, i like to reply "put away your gun then we'll fight." I just wanted to know other people opinions of the matter

I'm a Master Doctor and 4-3-4-3 in Pistoleer (and eventually when I quit using my alt to master holo profs I'll finish it).

Doctor.. and all the skills that come with that... are part of my template. I wouldn't ask a CH to not use pets... same basic deal, or someone with novice medic to not use stim b's.

I've yet to find a non doctor that agreed with this sentiment.. because a buffed elite combat prof (especially one wearing very high resist composite) is a pain in the ass to try and kill.

Fortunately, I don't spend much time dueling.. I mostly craft.. but yeah.. doc's should get to use buffs. It's one of the things we do.

Indeed, using buffs are just like a bounty hunter using eyeshot. It's a skill that we spend skill points on. If someone says that they'll duel only if you don't use buffs, then it's only fair that they give up some part of their repertoire, as well.

I'm a master doctor/master carbineer so my character is tailored to be buffed. When I'm buffed, I can bring down just about anything by myself. When I'm unbuffed, I have a hard time killing just about anything.

Someone once asked me for a duel but then said no buffs and no knockdowns. What was I supposed to do? Fight him barehanded?

Of course, this can be looked at a different way...

Buffs can be bought. Any combat character can walk up to a doctor and buy a set of enhancements from them that will last a couple hours. Other skills can't be "temporarily purchased" in such a way. For example, let's take 2 character templates...

Let's say we have a TK/Pistoleer/Smuggler (that everyone seems to like so much) vs. a Doctor/Carbineer (which I use, personally).

Normally, I'd enjoy my odds in such a fight. Sure, the TK is a better fighter than me, but I can buff myself, giving me a distinct edge. However, what if that TK bought a set of buffs just before our duel? There goes my edge and now I'm at a severe disadvantage because many of the skill points I had spent to acquire the ability to buff myself were just nullified by my opponent spending 5,000 credits. If I could spend 5,000 credits to buy the defenses of a TK or the skills of the smuggler, then it might be fair. But, obviously, that can't be done.

So, if you ask me, I'd say that it's fair to fight buffed only if you can do it yourself. Of course, whether you allow it or not is entirely up to the folks dueling, not to me.

There is no such thing as a fair fight, if it turns out fair then you have not done enough planning for the fight ahead of time. I have fought commandos in groups while buffed, stayed ahead of the burn with WoundCs, and done pretty well -- but only with 70% resist armor, C health buffs and lots of Muon Gold and Fishak, not to mention other bullet-stoppers getting hit and doing damage as well. Haven't tried it since I made Master Doc, but I imagine the result will be even better on my end.

I don't seek out combat, most of it occurs when Imps want to feel big and raid the AH cantina. I don't think they shoot healers first, but they'll take any TEF they can find. If Ihave some warning (e.g., time to buff), they will have a fight on their hands for sure.

HAHA

because of being a doc i've got 400 points in health and action and each of their secondaries. the rest obviously in mind and it's secondaries.

without a buff people would get a better fight out of a mouse droid. hell, burst run almost incapacitates me.

When someone asks me to duel, I tell them that I'llneed tobuff first. They usually say it's no fair or no thanks. When I was a CM people would say not to use poisons or disease. What are we suppose to use, harsh language? When you duel, it's your right to use every skill that you have for the fight. The only thing I would agree on before a duel is no DB's.

well said. i use poison in friendly no db duels. and i don't complain when a commando flames me (the difference is that i can cure his poison when we're done ).

people are way too uptight about this game.
