Thread: The need for more harvesters/factories

All you need to do is to retask your harvs to each resource you need. With your 2 for houses, 2 for factory,1 for wind, you have found that you can rotate. I'd try to have two working on advanced component resources and the rest for general components.


As you get low on any stock, you just change to the next one.



If you're that starved for resources, just pick up a heavy harv for your inorgs and supplement your organic requirements with orders from one of the many resource gatherers operating in your area. No need to trust the bazaar for reliable delivery of resources and energy.

I only feel hampered by the fact that factories don't work............

Yeah, and how come we can only get XP by healilng other people? Why doesn't the hospital come pre-stocked with terminal patients so we can practice our skills without interacting with other players? Why can't doctors just get all their resources for free so we can sell at a huge profit, huh? Why can't we just hoard until we have 250,000K of all the advanced resources and WE WILL BE UB3R!!!

I think it's because they're trying to encourage interdependence. If you were to, for instance, work with another player or two, you could harvest the oats and fiberplast and berries... someone else could get the water vapor and the wild wheat... someone else the dolovite iron and herbivore meat... someone else the petro 4 fuel and run a bunch of energy harvesters... and you could, get this: SHARE.


Yes, share. I know that 'sharing' isn't listed in the manual, but you might give it a whirl sometime. The real question is, why are doctors dependent on other professions for goods, but those other professions are not dependent on doctors for healing? Why is there secure trade for one and not the other?

I have no problems with sharing, I do it on a daily basis with close friends of mine. However, i believe you are taking the whole interdependcies a wee bit too far.

I mean what is so wrong with wanting to be able to harvest my resources on my own, without having to ask others for help. This is not some massive game alter thing. In fact i'm positive this would benifit all the artisan classes as well. So what is it that you have against this idea

Am I the only one that feels severly hampered by the low number of buildings we are able to place? To be able to make high quality meds it is essential to use adv parts. There are 4 main adv components, each requiring 2 specific resources. To be able to make these for orders and such, that means i need to have 8 harvesters running. Then i need atleast 2 wind harvesters to keep all the other ones running. That right there is taken up all our alloted 10 allowed buildings.

But then i also have to have a house for both my vendor and to hold supplies. Houses require 1 or 2 of those allowed buildings...1 or 2 points i no longer have.

Then there is factories. With Stim Ds up as all you know require factory made parts. So that is another 2 points that i don't have.

Well i guess you could possibly not have any wind harvesters running and just buy that off the bazaar. However that is not a garanteed thing. Then there is probably the argument that we should be just getting these resources from a resource gatherer...but like it is pointed out in our top 5 problems, that most dedicated resource gatherers do not wish to bother with such specific and hard to find(on occasion) resoruces....leaving us docs with the task of placing the harvesters.

And since selling meds is a doctor's only real reliable source of income, unless of course we get some fixes with the whole money thing...this will continue to be a problem.

I can only think of 2 solutions to this really. They both kind of build on the same basic premise. In one solution the number of alloted buildings increases to allow more flexibility of having homes/factories/harvesters. Or simply homes and factories should be seperated from harvesters. So that you get x amount of harvesters you can place and y amount of homes/factories you can place. The only real reason for the split would give the devs more control on the caps of each type. Yet it would still help the situation.

Like i kind of pointed out, people(especially the devs) might worry that all we would see is harvesters all over teh galaxy and that it would not be good for the economy. I couldn't disagree more. The increase in harvester population could cause people to explore planets moreso than they might do, and I believe the increase in number would not be a whole lot more noticable than say the increase that is already seen regardless from more and more players joining galaxies and placing their allotted harvesters. As far as the economy goes, a greater pool or resources could lower the cost on many items. Since the main cost in items is paying for the resources used and it's availability, having more and thusly lowering the cost of resources is extremly important now that mission payouts are much lower and thusly the general player will have much less money to spend.


What do you guys think...this just really bothers me how restricted we are with these limitations on building.

lol no no no no more lots...the database is already overloaded with the number of items it has to keep track for each player...now u wanna add more lots for houses so people can store even more stuff and overload the servers more?!
