Brothers Part I:

Kiith… Kali’ rolled the name around a bit in his mind. The phase scalpel he held in his hand shook a bit as he breathed deeply and evenly. He looked at the small Bothan on his operating table. Tubes, monitors, and wires tangled around him like an alien spider web, fighting back the black curtain of death that he danced so close to.

“Surgeons should never operate on family.” The adage popped into his head suddenly. But this wasn’t family… was it?The evidence was so clear, but his mind rejected the idea like foreign matter. A brother... a twin brother.

Two-Onebee’s servos wined as he turned to the doctor. “Dr. his heart is failing. Shall we begin?” The metallic voice pulled his mind out of a stagnant fog.

Kali’ nodded, “Absolutely.”

The next two hours passed with a white knuckled determination. A gray, emotionless precision that Kali’ had spent decades perfecting. The fatal wound was sealed, and life restored. But the mystery was only unraveling, who was this man? An unknown brother, agent of the Rebel Alliance, and man hunted by a Sith? Why had this brother searched the length of the galaxy to find him?

Kiith’s life was out of danger, but the path to answers would not be.

Brothers Part 3:

The Deadric starport was alive with the sounds of all sorts of sentient beings from across the galaxy. The constant hum of a hundred simultanious conversations. Kiith moved in out of the crowds, blending in like any number of locals. Kali' however did not share the same confidance. He felt as open as a sludge panther on Hoth.

The two small bothan's silently passed the public transport ticketmaster. They worked their way deeper to docking bay catacombs and personal transports. Ahead, Kali' saw Kiith tense, he ducked into a small maintanece hallway as he pulled out his datapad.

"What's wrong?"

Kiith squeased the frame of the datapad a little harder than it was meant. "I've lost him." Kiith growled. "My droid updated nearly twenty minutes ago and lost his trail. I can't avoid him if i don't know where he is."

Kali' shook his head. "Let's just get off this planet. You passed my Sorosuub,Voratious Curiosity about three bays back." .

"No." Kiith grabbed his arm. "We're not taking your ship, or mine. You do enough hunting and you find out what to do if your the prey. I'm sure he has both of them tagged. I arranged to have a friend meet us here."

"Tagged?"

"A tracking device, of some sort."

"Kali' nodded, "Right. When does your friend get here?"

"Should be already, but the port athoraties didn't have it on record. Although im not sure i'd recognise the name. He changes serials often enough."

A new found skeptisim shadowed Kali's tone, "Are you sure you can trust him."

Kiith smiled, "Sometimes an endebted smuggler is the most trustworthy thing in the galaxy, and this time, i wouldent have it any other way."

Kiith stood up to continue his progression through the docking bays. But something subtle about the movement made Kali' take a closer look. It was strained. The simple act of standing up made Kiith's breath quicken. He was weakining.

Kali' followed Kiith as he made his way past three more rows of bays, before he stopped at the manafest for docking bay 35. The manafest didn't hold a name, only model, Gallofree freighter YKL-37R.

Kiith pointed to the bay, "This has to be him." He quickly typed in an acess code.

As the door slid open, Kiith's face snaped from complacence, to wild bewilderment. The squad of stormtroopers inside made it painfully clear that some thing was very wrong. Especially... when they opened fire.

Brothers Part 2:

The fire crackled loudly as it echoed across the plains of Talus. The setting sun drew a series of strange shadows across the ground. The fire’s light drew a faint protective halo that surrounded the camp.

Kali’ drew himself closer to the fire. He had never really been comfortable in the wild. Though, things couldn’t have been more opposite for his twin. Kiith, the Bounty Hunter, seemed as at home here as the metallic jungles of Dedric.

“How soon till we know?” Kali’ asked.

Kiith’s darker completion ruffled into a frown. “Hard to be sure. He knows I’m not dead, that’s why he hasn’t left the planet. He just can’t find us. I’ve had droids patrolling the comm. channels and watching the starports. As soon as he lays in low we’ll make a run for it.”

Kali’ nodded, though he wasn’t sure what type of reassurance that was supposed to bring him. Frankly, he had barely pieced Kiith back together last run in with the Sith. He wasn’t sure either of them would survive another encounter.

Kiith leaned forward and turned the skewer that roasted some carnivorous creature over the fire. He pulled a data cube out of his pocket. “I guess now’s as good a time as any.”

It was Kali’s turn to frown. “For what?”

“Why the Alliance needs your help.” Kiith activated the holocube and set it on the ground. “This came directly from Mon Mothma.”

The holocube flashed to life with a small recording of microscopic Virus activity.

“What’s this?”

“It’s a genetically engineered RNA-virus. Something the Empire has been working on for a while. The actually symptoms of the virus are quite mild, equitable with the common cold. But it has a more subtle side. While in your system, cell’s under its influence create variable RNA proteins that mimic it’s host. When healthy cells absorb the protein, instead of DNA rearranging it, it rearranges the DNA. The DNA becomes unable to produce any other sort of protein. And it starts mass-producing the useless one. The virus lives on as the protein, and shuts down the bodies ability to absorb proteins.”

“It’s a relative silent killer, the person just seems to shrivel up and die of malnutrition. An assassin’s disease.” Kali’ scowled. “What does this have to do with me?”

“The only cure rests in a chance of reconstructing the Injured DNA. The alliance believes your recent immunization projects for combat viruses have taken a step in the right direction.”

“I was sent to escort you to a medical Frigate where the research is being done. But that Sith has been chasing me since I started. The empire doesn’t want a cure to be found, and I think your life may be more in danger than mine.”

Kali’ was confused. “Why is this so urgent? Why now? What is happening?”

Kiith swallowed hard. “So far only two Alliance sympathizers have been infected, Corellian Senator Garm Bel Ibis… and me.”

Brothers Part 4:

Kiith dove back out of the doorway, with a preditor's instinct, dragging his brother with him. Blaster bolts riddled the ground where they had stood seconds before. Kiith swore. "Stormtroopers, shoot first, interrogate later."

He motioned his brother back as he pulled an ungainly looking pistol from its holster. He leaned in to the door waiting for a pause in the blaser fire. Kali' watched Kiith count off the seconds. "3... 2... 1..."

Kiith dove across the door way, his pistol lit the air with five blaster bolts at once. By the time he landed on the other side, his gun had spoken six times. Once per trooper.

The room dropped into complete silence by the time Kali' leaned out to look in. The stormtroppers were scatterd across the charred floor, and a small waste compacter had been set a flame.

Suddenly, Kali' wondered if, 'Shoot first, interrrogate later' was the ST's policy, or Kiith's.

"Let's MOVE!" Kiith shouted. "There's got to be more of them."

They broke off across the bay charging toward the freighter. The ramp was up, and the ship looked sealed tight. But, as they got closer, the ramp began to decend. It got halfway to the floor, and suddenly stopped. Kali' heard the servos grind as the ramp's motor labored against an unseen obstical. The color drained from Kiith's face. "RUN!"

Pain eruped across the right side of Kali's body and suddenly he was flying through the air toward the freighter. His shocked mind dimly comprehended the cause when he saw tendrils of lightning arc across the floor. He landed with a dull energyless thud at the mouth of the studdering ramp.

After a hazy moment he looked back to the source of the pain. A dark skinned human stood near a second entrance, an ungodly grin shaping his face. His black robes, declared his presence without need of an explanation.

Without thinking Kiith kneeled and fired. His strange pistol spat fire at the assailent. A yellow lightsaber snapped into existance and snatched the shower of bolts from the air. But not without effort, the Sith growled as he turned to fend off the energy swarm attacking him.

While his saber was busy, another lightning bolt lept from his fingers. The bolt struck Kiith in the uper part of his torso, but diffused across the surface of his body armor.

With the Sith destracted the ramp crashed to the ground behind Kali'. Someone gripped him from behind and hauled him up the ramp. He looked up from the flat of his back as the world began to un-fuzz. The man looking over him smiled, "Ghys Einei, nice to meet you too."

Outside, the Sith was winning. Kiith, was weakining, having a hard time keeping up the bombardment. Finnally, the Sith deflected one of Kiith's bolt's back allong the course it had come. It scored against his right bracer, with not enough force to penetrate, but enough to knock him off balence. The Sith reached out with the force and yanked Kiith's right foot out from underneath him. That was it, Kiith crashed to the floor, dizzied by the speed of his fall.

The Sith laughed. "Stupid bothan. I should have killed you more thoroughly the last time." He swung his lightsaber threatiningly as he walked up to him. "Time to meet your maker." The sith charged forward for the deathblow, but suddenly the ground dissapeared from underneath him asEinei's freigther fired it's lower turret with athoraty.

The blast knocked the Sith backwards, giving Kiith just enough time to get to his feet and dive for the ramp. As soon as his feet touched down the freighter jumped skyward in a vertical takeoff. Kiith grabbed once of the ramp's hydrolic pistons to keep from being slung off as the freighter launched.

Kiith looked groundward just in time to see the black robed figure dive for the exit to escape from the relentless turret.
