Thread: What do you think about having a heal other bonus?

The key difference between a healer and a non-healer is our ability to heal others. This is what makes us unique. As a group member this should be our most valuable skill that we bring to the group.


A healer has 3 choices in most fights; attack the mob, heal a group member, heal themselves. Since our special skill is to heal others you would think that we would far more often heal a group member, however, I see this a the lest common thing we do.


To help push our heals toward others I would like to suggest a bonus begin when we are healing others. This would work much the same way as a droid bonus work. It would be a % bonus of the basic heal.


I would suggest this be done for all of the healing prof (medic, CM, doc, Jedi Healer).


What are your thoughts?

Well I like the idea but I see an additional problem. A higher heal means more hate usually. It might give that incentive not to heal the other guy til they need it. I personally was the guy doing the area heals and occasionaly doing the bacta shot to the tank so I was used to the hate.


Even though I'm going the Jedi route now (just gave up the last of my Doc) I'd say that the Jedi healer doesn't really need this. Not really.

If something like this was implemented they would have to fix the hate system first. As the previous poster stated, healing others would give us more hate if this was implemented

I think this would be a great idea, but there are something that need some serious changes before this would be feasible.


1. Aggro for heals would need to be reduced. The last "fix" was almost unnoticed during combat. I get just as much aggro now as before the fix. There is nothing like a pack of aggroed Pikets that concentrate all of their efforts on a Doc after he heals one person while in a party of 8. That kind of makes everyone else's job a lot easier because they are not being attacked, but the Doc is just barely staying alive healing himself with all the attacks . . . meanwhile the other 6 members of the group are asking, "Why don't you heal me, dammit?"


2. Giving a bonus to xp does a Master Doc no good what-so-ever . . . which pool does it go into when the Med XP is maxxed? How about giving me a bonus that actually means something ? And no, giving me a stim pack is not a bonus . . . just like turning all of my pre-CU buffs into Bacta Jab Enhancers is NOT an even trade.


3.Fix the hate. Nothing more aggravating than some punk crying that you didn't heal his 25 points of health before the next critter attacked him . . . or that you wait until he is at 50% before you heal him to full health with one Bacta Shot.

I've found that when I'm in a group, most of my heals come between creatures, either because the damage is small enough not to be worth the effort to heal in battle, or the creatures go down so quickly that by the time the command goes through, the creature is already dead. In smaller groups, I usually become the tank between the damage I deal and the healing I do, so there is no real benefit of such a bonus in my mind.

Please remember that they upped the amount of damage all medical professions heal by approximately 45% and lowered the hate level by 50%. That's why it wasn't really a fix. You're getting less hate per point but healing a great deal more. And as long as you are healing more a tic then someone is dealing, or getting from a taunt effect, we will always outhate the rest.

Then it seems to me that you are in a group that needs a little more guidance or another high level character that can taunt. Really this is an issue of the groups you happen to get in with. A dangerous group nets you no xp... it simply gets you killed. I always suggest letting them get into trouble to see how they deal with it. The only other option is to bacta spray ever few ticks and hope for the best.


There are just so many ways to deal with this... are you all trying to pull small numbers? Is there a solid tank in the group? Are they using area attacks or single attacks? Are they taunting? Why pickets and not bols or other non social creatures (don't give me the xp excuse either)?


Pretty much all the medical skills are hate magnets period. How you deal with that... will determine how much you like your position in the group.

I didn't know where this came from. He's suggesting more dmg healed to a target that isnot yourself. The only way that transfers into xp is when you are attacking the same target as the person you are healing (i.e. the amount you heal over the damage you deal determines how the xp is divided between the skills). I personally didn't heal if I wanted weapon xp and didn't shot when I wanted medical xp. As to what to do with the extra I just traded it in at the village. Even as a Senses master now I've got almost 2.5 mil FS Senses xp banked from trading in. It's not about capping its about what you do with the skills you have and how you fit in with a group. You in turn might like to dabble in CM maybe. I found my MDoc/MCM/MMed was a formitable healer and could still solo a great deal of content.


Also this shouldn't be about a bonus we deserve somehow. The CU trade stuff was to make up for taking away our crafted items. This seemed to be a suggestion of how to make our jobs better in a group.

I agree with some moding of the hate system but it seems the Devs are happy with how it is now. The rest one again is who you are running with. I wish you good luck in finding reasonable and honorable people to mission or grind with.
