yes, you just need to have him/her out and with range (~15m). Once you pull him out you may want to train him (see DE forum for details). The basics are

1. Pull the droid out

2. Select it until the radial dial shows

3. Select the teach function

4. Pick a command that you want to train. You should see a "!" appear in spacial above the droid.

5. In spacial say the word you want to use for that command.

For example, If you wanted to train your droid to group you would pick the group command and then say the word "Group" or for short you would say "g". Once trained if you say "g" and nothing else the droid will attempt to join your group.

As long as he is out you will get the healing advantage he gives you.

As far as programming him, use the radial dial to select program droid.

select the item to program, i.e. 'follow'

type the command that you want to say when you want the droid to follow you, i.e. 'F' then press enter

if it went right you should be able type 'F' at any time when the droid is out and he will follow you
