Thread: Can I ask some advice about buffing?

I am currently a 3-4-4-0 doctor and I'd like to gain the 4th bar in treatment speed buffing people. Now I am running rather low on funds so I'm going to have to charge for the buffs to be able to afford the raw materials for the crafting line (and to buy more buff packs). I have been healing and buffing people on my way up to this level for free because the xp was important to me, and I thought it wasmore customer friendly than using a tumbler. It's just that the supplies aren't cheap and most of my money gained frommissions has been used up.

The Med Use 90 buff packs I have plus my +25 clothing, 110% droid and +25 bivoli are allowing me to buff for around 2100-2200 for 2.5-3.5 hrs. I am on Chilastra where the standard cost of buffs are 10k from a master doc (maybe 2300+ for 3hrs+) or up to 15k on an advance planet. What would be a fair price for me to charge? I was thinking 10k on an advance planet and 8k elsewhere.

Thanks.

This comes back the response of charge whatever you want to charge.. believe me you will hear about it if people do not think it is fair. I see plenty of people buffing for 10k on 2300 buffs..

You should be fine doing 10k/15k.. people simply will line up elsewhere if they don't like your price..

I think you'll do fine charging 10k. You could probably squeak out a bit more on Endor/Dantooine/Lok, but you'll do better volume on Coronet/Theed.

Go to Theed first, if it's camped with docs you can go to Coronet with no wait.

It's worth it to take a while and find a period of time where there's nobody else buffing in one of those cities, you'll be the "belle of the ball" and you won't have to wait between customers.

At 10k per you will make several hundred k per hour if you can keep the customers rolling in.

Welcome to the profession. Have fun. Be firm and fair with your customers, let them know your conditions/price/stats up front.

Be careful of the bank tip scam.

Most of us who don't buff the public stopped because some of the customers suck. There's a lot of good info here on how to minumize that to help you enjoy the very profitable life of a buffmonkey, even if you only plan to do it for a little while.

Thanks for the info Vermicious. I have read about the scams and the way to set up a buffing session and plan to use this advice wisely.

I have to admit I'm enjoying doctor alot and I'm planning on staying one for a long time. I never knew the med centre's were such a social place and I have had some genuinely great customers. I am planning on making a reasonable living from buffing to start with and then move to concentrate on crafting when I have collected enough good resources.

I guess you'll see quite a bit more of me on this board

Be carefull about watching your costs. Your margin between your price and costssounds kind of low to me, though you don't say what you are paying for the buffs. If you take the bivoli and only do one buff are you going to come out ahead? By enough to make it more worthwhile than missions?

In a similar position for skills, I charge more than the master docs with bigger buffs. And I don't use the bivoli, but advertise what I can do without it.Now I don't get much business that way, but at least I do get some while grinding crafting, and I am getting a reasonable profit when I do. I don't sit in Coronet where the competition is fierce, so my customers need to choose whether to travel or take my offer.

BTW, that is a nice skill level to go on the Corvette with which is fun and profitable as well. Every group needs some Docs, but buy yourself some good armour.

Thanks for the advice. My margin is quite tight but as long as I charge 10k I am in profit. At the moment I am enjoying all the things I can do as a doctor and buffing is one of those. I spent an hour buffing people last night for 10k a go and I really enjoyed it, so I can live with the tight margin at the moment :-)

I'm looking forward to giving the corvette a go and I hear what you say about armour. The only problem is that I'm a wookie so I'll have to use one of my 22% base/56% kinetic sets of wookie armour :-(

Your prices are fine.

Grab a medium chemical and a medium flora harvester and plop them down for tat fiber and lok wheat.

You'll have the materials to grind out ABEC's in a few days.

Surveying is not that hard and the sheer amount of raw resources you can pull in is astounding.

I had 3 harvesters (1 heavy and 2 mediums) and pulled in 230K class IV in a shift we just had on my server. . those harvesters payed for themselves in less than one resource shift.

Yeah that price is definitely fine. If anyone complains just tell em to go run a couple missions and then they'll have the other 2 hrs and 50minutes to use the buffs with their money back in pocket.

You'll prob always find someone that complains. I use Bivoli and my buffs hit for 2521 or higher on the stats for 3 hrs 10mins and I've actually had someone complain...on Endor mind you....that I asked 10k.

People can very easily and quickly make the money back from paying for buffs but it's their decision on what they do with their time and they should not complain about pricing if they don't want to take their own time to make the money back.
