I just have a question concerning combat skills combined with doc. I am a master doc and am also climbing the pistoleer tree so I can go get Janta Blood on my own. If I master, which Im sure I'll have to master cause Jantas are hard, I'll only have 12 skill points to use. So my question is, is this a good idea. I am going to lose artisan and the surveying that goes with it. have any other docs missed the survey line? Is it a big deal to get resources without the survey line? I am in a guild and they are real good about telling everyone about good resources (swgcraft.com etc) but ive been artisan since day one, andI a little nervous about dropping this and then needing it again. On the other side, I am greatly enjoying the combat side and hopefully can enhance the quality of my buffs with Janta, get some good loot to sell etc. any thoughts?

I am pretty lucky to play with my best friend from high scool, Darrsk, SO we set up a business. I'm master doc/swordsman he's Commando and other stuff (lol idk). I placed our house (tat pa hall), a shop on coronet, and 1 factory. He has the vendors 1 more factory and does the harvesters, so he does the scouting.
so..... no I don't miss it lol.
But you can always hire someone to survey for you easy.

I surveyed on my main with no survey skills for a long time.. It really is not that bad of a deal.. I mean, you don't have the range..
In my opinion.. surveying sucks with or without it anyway.. Might as well use the sp for something else..

You sure you've counted right? I count 18 points left, with purely Master Doctor and Master Pistoleer. With that you can have artisan and one box of surveying... I'm doing just that only with Swordsman instead of Pistoleer.

Wait... can you really use a survey tool without having artisan? I thought that wasn't possible...

If you can really use a survey tool with no Artisan skills then I'm going to use my leftover 18 pounts to get Novice scout and one block of hunting or exploration. That way if I'm in the mood to harvest my own creature resources I can.

You do have 18 left. And at a max cost of $1,100 there's no reason you can't pick up Artesan +Surveying I (get somechandad, it can increase your range) when you want to survey and Scout plus hunting I when you want to harvest critters. As for doing Janta missions with pistols? I don't know about that as I thought pistols sucked. Probably have better luck with a melee class.

If you get Survey 2 in artisan profession and set your tools to 128m they will stay that way as long as you have Survey 1. You can even drop Artisan for say Scout to harvest some meat as long as you get back Artisan and Survey 1 Before you use your tools again.

I used to be master artisan, so I still have survey IV @ 320m. how far will that food increase your range? I was thinking of bouncing back and forth between artisan and scout for meat harvest. how much meat can you get at that level of scout? Is it worth it?

I'm master doc on the gorath server. I am 3 3 3 3 in pistoleer and I plan on having master doc and master pistoleer. Iwill keep novice scout for the harvesting. It's so easy onour server to get the mineral resources that I don't want to do any surveying or mining. I'll keep the scout to harvest my own meats when I can find them. The only downside seems to be that pistoleer as a combat profession alone is very weak. I wish I would have chosen TKM or another melee combat skill. But I have months invested in pistols, soI plan on finishing it for now.

I did miss the lack of skill points but then I just started buying my meds..it costs a little more but so much less work.

That's exactly my plan, too ![]()
Once I hit Master Sowrdsman (it will take me a while) I'm going to keep scoutmost of the timefor harvesting, then drop it whenever I notice a good resource (thanks swgcraft and iootnega!).
I am really psyched for this template update... it was getting boring not being able to do any damage!
