I understand that doctors are great for buffing, and even rezzing folks during combat (though now with vehicles the run back from the cloning center seems not so bad).
But the ability to die without getting wounds has made doctors almost useless. We are there to heal, and doctors excell at making those big black bars go away. Disease is a problem, yes, but those are few and far between compared to the amount of times people die in combat.
I know people would cry and say "i cant get myself healed! there are not enough docs around!", I guess they would either have to pay to get healed (as outlandish as that seems now), or actually have to raise their medic skill above novice.

I have to disagree with this statement, fair be it that a docs main job seems to be to buff, and granted that diseases and poison cures are not as common as deaths, (on a side note, and unrelated to this the loss of buffs after rez'ing is great please dont change this) and the fact that when healing and dealing with wounds a novice medic with decent packs can be nearly as effective.
The rez command is still invaluable, even when a player has stored there clone data and insured their items they still loose 1% (or is it 2%?) condition on theyre items, and uninsured (which i tend to be the majority of the time) 5% loss. When im out in the field rez seems to be the most requested action, and when i ask why they dont just want to clone, the reason is usually so they dont loose condition on their items.

Good point on the Rez still being a useful skill, I agree with you completely
However, the poster beforedescribed healing wounds as not really a Doc thing. I would argue that healing wounds is exactly the doc thing. 2/4 of our skill lines are wound healing. For us to be useful in our primary field, we need wounds to heal. For us to get those wounds, we need to either have more wound creating injuries, or get rid of cloning.
All those hospitals seem to be going to waste as grinding centers for novices. If you go in one with wounds, people barely care about you, they dont want to be bothered with wound packs.
While there are exceptions, I think things would be better with more black bars.

You can heal your wounds really fast with novice medic if you have a wound pack b with 200+ base heal on it.

On my non Doc alt with novice medic, I tend to just sit in a tavern listening to a musician, and /tendwound self until I am better
Takes a while, but gets the job done.

I'm always amazed at how many people don't know about the /tendwound command. I've run into Master Doctors who are in a player cantina, asking me for wound packs. I'm like, use /tendwound and watch the dancer/ent. They are usually like "Whats that do?"

Healing's more of a medic thing, really.
Doctors are still very useful for buffs, poison and disease removal, and resurrection.
True, wound healing used to play a bigger part, but even then a medic could take care of wounds almost as well as a doc.
Doctors excel at the higher level heals and cures. The state of PVP, and PVE, with large amounts of poison and disease, makes doctors very valuable, not to mention the persistent high demand for buffs.

Maybe I'm missing something. As far as I can see there are a ton of ppl running around with black in their bars. I buff for hours a night and heal tons of wounds. I don't think cloning is goin to hurt us. Besides ppl don't wanna pay for heals these days anyway. /laugh

Doctor isn't useless. Look at PvP.. Doctor is used to cure states, cure poisons/disease, extiniguish fires, also buffing is a big part of Doctor. So saying that Doctor is useless is kinda stupid, besides.. most people forget to clone everytime they city hop, but everyone has Medic and can heal there wounds in a matter of a few minutes anyway. So Doctor will NEVER be useless.
