I agree. I just stated that this is something that sounds "cool" to the devs. Besides, injecting seratonin does what? I bet it has modest effects if any because the chemical itself is probably too unstable to handle and medically manage (i.e. direct delivery to the brain). The drugs people take to help them through depression, etc take up to three weeks of continual use to actually work (these are called selective seratonin re-uptake inhibitors)!
If this is some kind of quick-pick-me-up shot... the devs should have doc's toss muon (or an equivalent), etc at their patients. The spice-tree reminds me a lot of what a illegal drug actually DOES -- it quickly alters your brain chemistry. Cocaine, for instance, quickly alters the levels of seratonin in your synapses. Perhaps this is our muon-equivalent?

I suspect Seretonin injections would do very little, as the blood-brain barrier prevents most drugs (even chemicals naturally produced by the body) from getting into the brain. It is notoriously difficult to get any chemicals out of the bloodstream and into the brain.

Funny I was just thinking of something like that, in WW1 I believe anphetamine was used for this purpose. However I do think we shouldn't get too uptight about this; there's much more stuff needs to be more urgently addressed in the game mechanics. If it works we can always ask for the name to be changed later.

Interesting never heard of a direct overdose of serotonin to the brain, only from an overdose of an SSRI. AFAIK serotonin present in the serum does not equlibrate with that present in the brain, a IV injection of serotonin might well constrict blood flow killing you, as if effects smoothmuscle, (1) but I'm sceptical that it would cross the blood brain barrier to cause neurological effects.
As to MDMA most OD's I've heard of for that are usually from dehydration and heartfailure rather than neurotoxic. ThoughMDMA doubtless causes depression in many who take it, as it stimulates serotonin release to such an extent that the brain remains depleted of it afterwards. (2)
Anyway we're digressing somewhat here, like I said earlier, we should probably sort out the game mechanics first then quibble over the descriptions later.

You are thinking of melatonin which by the way if taken orally will cause you to relax and fall asleep. No blood brain barrier problem there.
