Thread: Introduce Deseases

The idea is to include an easy-to-program desease system which has different kinds of effects.


Depending on the type of the Desease it could effect you differently:


Your Image: Turning fat, very skinny, bald, pale... (in the game 99% of the people are unnaturely goodlooking)


your HAM: slower regeneration, or penalty


your Mood: set mood constant (until healed) to depressive, hysterical, etc.


"Chance of infect" or "Contageous-Rate" should be set to 1:30.000


This worked in other games very well.


Let the scouts/rangers be able tosee adesease on creatures.


Let the Docs be able to see the desease on humanoids.


This would give the Docs and Image Designers, and Scouts/Rangersmore to do.

Dude, the idea of players spreading diseases is brilliant. I too would really like to see this implemented (although I personally hope I dont catch a disease). Give the people infected an emote like coughing and puking and watch others shy away from them... hehe. The only problem I see is that people will use if for griefing, sigh.

it would be also nice to have the ability to take peoples arms off for a little while. I mean we are doctors. Give me my scapal or however you spell it.

This is a great idea.You could also add vacination's in there, so that people who dont want to catch diseases could have a prevenitive. Thiscouldbe on a timer so they would have to come back and get a booster every once in a while so they dont catch anything.

Someone had a very similar idea to you on the SWG Discussion idea. I think that may have been where you got it from (sorry).


I can't find the link but it was an amazing idea. Here's the gist of it:


Someone decided to release a disease on Naboo one day, infecting the whole planet. This is uncureable with any of the cure disease packs a Doctor can make so everyones left wondering "What the hell?"


It is then discovered that you need the resources of a rare animal from Endor or Yavin and resources from another planet like Dath to make this cure disease pack which Doctors can apply. The Resources will need to be found using a special made Survey tool. This was a great idea and it included every profession; combatants for the animal; artisans for the resource; scouts to harvest; doctors to apply the disease.


IT was proposed to be added in as the monthly story idea and Jaessa (sorry if I got you name wrong), passed it on to the devs who whopefully will form something similar to it.


But it's a great idea, none-the-less and lets hope it gets implemented!

While great content for docs, if it takes away from anyone's abilities, they'll call it "un-fun" and not do it. If it were just annoying, it might work.


Maybe characters take on a grey-scabby appearance or let out coughing or sneezing while they talk. Non-combat balance could be off, resulting in dizzy orother stateeffects for spells of a few seconds at a time. Fainting spells? (10 second incap)


They could even do the same type of thing with the encoded disks, where partial cures drop as quest or loot items. I like the idea of cure components being rare or difficult to obtain. They'd have to do it in such a way so that players would want the docs to get the cure, and not sell bits of information for 20K apiece. Otherwise the players with a lot of money will have the market cornered right away.


Maybe docs can earn xp by treating victims for symptoms (states). When they have enough, they get the ability to cure someone (although they can be reinfected). We'd end up with *clean* or hotbed areas until the disease is erradicated. After the plague gets wiped out, it could be declared beaten, and a vaccine goes out.


Infection should be transmissible, but not predictably so. Otherwise you'll get some plague victim refusing heals and standing around infecting people just for fun.


Give IDs hairstyles that cover the face, tailors things like masks that cover your faceand *may* reduce your chance of infection. (nobody knows) These could also serve to hide the fact that you are infected. (maybe people don't want to trade with you or be around you)

On top of introducing planetary diseases, it would be cool if a master doctor/doctor could devote their medical xp to 'finding a cure'. When a certain xp amount is alloted on a galaxy wide scale, a cure is found and doctors can either build new vaccine packs or people are automatically healed when they enter a med center. Doctors that contribute a great deal into the 'search for a cure' xp pool get a badge or something like that. heh. Doctor Fain 'Curer of Endorian Black Toe Rot'. Just an idea.

Brilliant.

However, how would these diseases be spread? By talking to someone? by doig a trade with them? by buying diseased hide etc?

I like the idea of people catching a "cold" or something. Say it doesnt actually affect the stats of a player, but just makes their mood tired and has then yakking up every once in a while. we could make Cold Medicine with a Med Use of 0, an then administer advanced Cold Medicine ourselves...

Neat though.

The challenge lies in balancing he neatness for us without pissing off everyone else. If done poorly it could result in people getting really ticked off.

Also would dying "cure" you of this state?

Well, back to the topic:


-deseases should spread out from npcs, at the mentioned rate, by attacking them, harvesting, conversingetc, except examining them.



- contact via pc only, if the pc has not been healed and still sick.
