for now, pistoleer works well. Till they nerf knockdown. Again.

PVE is gonna be impossible after that without a large group. Oh well....

Don't fight reds then. I am solo almost 95% of the time when I go hunting and have 0 problems without even using knockdown. There are other tactics you can learn to keep yourself alive...

I agree...I can kill non pack assisting mobs. Problem is that most things pack assist on Lok, Yavin, and Endor, and I can't take more than one at a time.

I just traded out Pistoleer for Rifleman because I see a big change in Pistol coming soon. The 30sec knockdown thing isn't that big to me, but pistols are WAY too accurate at extreme range currently and I see that being fixed soon to bring the max (effective) range in to where it should be.

I am liking rifleman. The weapons are MUCH slower but overall it works out well. I hunt on Lok quite a bit and hunt Nym's pirates and such. I send faction pets in to keep aggro then sit at best effective range and headshot them dead. They are non social so you will only have one at a time.

The only downside is rifle mind costs are very high. After 2 mobs usually I have to wait and regen mind (and I am only using Headshot II).

Oh, and for PVP remember the only stat you can't megabuff is mind. Take a look at the average player out there who isn't a medic; see that small blue bar ? /smile

And before you ask I hunt solo on Lok, Yavin, and sometimes endor. You just have to pick and choose your fights. You can't kill everything in the game solo anymore (well after the knockdown change that is).

Well - going to have to make some serious choices soon =) heh.

Want Master Doc and Want TKA master.... want pistoleer novice only for use of DX2 slash a ranged weap to draw em in/kill em if they run... heh.

So far loving it, the ability to heal myself really helps in the field and at TKA novice (what i am now) w/ no other boxes it does quite well. =) Of course i will get more boxes... hehehe. Still have scout stuff - just dropped entertainer... etc etc... i'll figure it out as i go... but since i don't do a lot of PVP - being TK is very nice against monsters... As i am, i can take some red cons... but depending on the monster... don't let 2 or more of em come... .rofl =)

I currently have a little pistoleer but am thinking of switching to rifle. The ability to hit the mind pool is rather enticing.

For those of you with rifleman, are the rifle's specials too prohibitive to be able to use specials and heal teammates? I figure the distance you're at is going to hinder your ability to heal others easily. How about the slowness of the rifle? Assuming heals aren't changed so they're moved to the beginning of the combat queue, does the slowness of the rifle make it tough to heal people?

Although, since reaching Master Doctor, I'vebecome surprisingly uninterested in healing anyone other than myself and my pet. I'm really thinking about this, even if it means I'm unable to waste, uh,I mean use stims on others during combat.

yeah you are going to have to make some decisions. After mastering medic, doc, and TKA youll only have enough points left for novice marksman and intermediate pistol. Not even enough for scout blaster certification. If you just want doc for healing and buffs, you could always just get Advanced Wound Treatment and Expert Medicine Knowledge and buy buffpaks from a Master Doc.

The best idea is to go for something that everyone else is avoiding because of bugs. Bugs are temporary and the current rare professions will be very much in demand when they are fixed, and hard to deal with on an opponent. And you will already be high level in that profession!

I'm mainly Doctor/Carbineer and my megabuffsnegate the high HAM costs of using a carbine. Carbineers are best at attacking the action pool (bleeds and damage, plus random-pool attacksthat hit mind 1/3 of the time). While action can be healed with stimpacks, it's a very vulnerable pool because most combat professions also chew it upwith their special moves, helping the Carbineer reduce it fast (and reducing the specials output of the opponent). It's a medium-range weapon so it's not as bad as rifle at close range and has decent speed (using a 3.0 spd 27-230 dmg at the moment).

I think TKA is currently another "rare" profession, but I'd be hesitant about adopting a melee profession when you may have to run out of combat range to heal someone.

I completely disagree with this statement, I think TKA or another melee specialist class is a greate complement to doctor. Since docs lack range, if they want to heal the tanks, they have to get right into the thick of things. Being a melee class makes this less scary because of your melee toughness and melee defense bonuses. Besides, why would you have to run out of combat range to heal someone? If that someone isn't in "combat range" then does he really need healing?

Coupling Doc with TKA, Swordsman, Fencer, or Pikeman sounds like a great match. You may not have excellent PVP possibilities, but you will be very useful in group or solo PVE. In PVP you will not have a ranged weapon and therefore, until kiting and ranged knockdown are nerfed (which they are slowly doing), the pistoleer/carbineer will own you, albeit a slow protracted death. I have done Master Swordsman/Doctor and It is awesome! The toughness, defense, and massive damage combined with high HAM (buffs), low HAM costs (more buffs), and good healing (stim Ds) are formidable traits.
