I've got a crazy idea, how about a survey droid. You buy from a Droid Engineer and set it to whatever resource you want and it will survey a planet and find a waypoint toa reasonably high concentration of it?

Actaully that is one of the options for that issue, especially if you follow up on the threads listed. Definitely has some merit if it can be implimented.

I'd be willing to include a master artisan level component in these so the artisans wouldn't get upset over it, too. That'd be good for DE's, artisans, and docs...

I've always been a little confused on this subject. Thing is, you could master Medic, Doctor, and Artisan with the total skill points available. So, why do you need a droid? Why not just use your character instead?

I would like a droid that would survey for me... because I mastered Medic and Doc... but I also have some combat and scout skills because I like to be able to kill, harvest from creatures and run up hill faster than a slug But I might have to give up a ranged combat box and the top boxes of Exploration and Hunting to get Novice Artisan so I can survey for resources

Will likely never happen. This would invalidate the whole survey line in artisan. Why would anyone want to go up that if they can just buy a droid that will do it for you quicker.

I am still very confused at why this idea ever even comes up. Ok, so if you want scouting abilities, master medic, master doctor, some combat ability, and ability to survey, just do this

Medic - 4444 - 77 points

Doctor - 4444 - 63 points

Marksman - 4000/0400/0040 - 29 points

Scout - 0040 - 29 points (I'm pretty sure that's the hunting ladder I got there)

Artisan - 0000 - 15 points (trust me novice is more than enough for surveying)

All that adds up to 213 points leaving you MORE than enough room to go up into an elite combat class if you like.

So why don't people just get artisan and survey for themselves. There is absolutely, positively no reason to have a droid that does this. Even moreso (and I hate to say this), there's not even a reason to hire an artisan to do it for ya. All master doctors have MORE than enough points to get everything they need to lay harvesters and well as be effective in combat and heal damage/buff/heal wounds/cure disease, etc.

Anian. I want Master Doctor and Master Teras Kasi. That means I have to choose between novice scout + 1 box or novice artisan + 1 box. Can you run the numbers a different way?

Put another way, just because you can put together a template YOU like doesn't mean everyone can.

The whole point behind the skill system is to manage and balance your points so that you have the best mix of them all. So, give up one thing or the other. Give up scout Artisan. Point is you have enough points to do what you want to do...even if it means missing a master to get scouting or artisan. Still absolutely NO reason for a droid.

One reason that this is an issue is that CH's were given the ability to use special pet stims on their pets without having to take novice medic, smugglers get +10 Med Use at higher levels without having to take novice medic. Heck, the med centers will even auto heal you. All doctors want is a way to find the resources that we need for ourprofession without having to get skills outside our profession.

I'd go over this again, but it's really been covered a LOT in previous threads that are linked to directly in that issue. You may want to take a look over some of those threads and see if you wish to provide some answers to the arguments presented in those.
