I was puzzled when I saw Doctor being considered as a Combat profession in the CU.

Some people enjoy being Doctors, yet, like many artisans, dont posess and don't want to posess a combat profession. What would be the point if Doctors loose the ability to heal deseases and poison to the CM but retain the "heal state" option. Doctors should not be forced into the field, it should be a profession that anybody can take without commiting themselves to the front line. I never totaly understood the point of having the heal state attribute, but i never use it anyway.

  • Doctors should be useful in cities taking care of long term effects such as poison, desease, wounds and enhance attributes.

  • CMs should be useful in the field to cure injuries and states, and using area biologicalattacks.

It would be unfortunate if the CU forces people who enjoy non-combat professions to take one or be compelled to go into the field to grind experience in their non-combat role.

The idea of putting the in combat healing role in CM and putting all the pre/post healing and crafting in doctor was presented to the devs as an alternative to the CU design. The reason we were given for them not doing that was that it would make CMs too powerful. Basically, the healing skills are too numerous for just one profession.

I wasn't gonna get involved in this thread, but what the heck.

In Live or the CU I'm a healer, I don't really craft, I don't buff, I don't really do much but heal. In both systems, unless I'm totally suckin @$$ that day,I very rarely get killed or even attacked. When I'm with a group they do everything they can do to keep stuff off of me, and only when people die (mostly the entire group) do I ever get in trouble. I really fail to see the point you are trying to make here.

If you want to sit in a hospital and heal wounds or buff people all day long, then do that. No one is forcing you to go into the field. And odds are you will or should be able to pick up Master Doctor without doing anything for XP because of the conversion.

Doctor has always, from day one, been considered a Combat SUPPORT Profession. That has never changed. We still Support Combat people. So if you want to get Doctor and some other crafting profession or whatever, you can do that. Odds are you will never get attacked if your in a group of good people. And even if you do get attacked, it's not gonna matter much, use /burst and run as fast as you can.

You don't need armor, buffs, or even weapons in the CU or in live if you now how to play.

In the new combat system, both Doctor and CM are combat professions. Each have unique skills. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses. To be the ultimate healer, you have to master both professions. It's just like any other part of the combat diagram (Damage Dealer, Tank, Crowd Control). If you want to be the ultimate damage dealer, for example, you have to take up professions that excel in that area. It's how all professions related to combat are balanced, and I think the system will work. Stacking isn't gone, it's now applied to everything. There is no best template, but each template will have strengths and weaknesses. Pick the one that suits you and your game style.

The idea of Doctor not being in combat will no longer apply to SWG. Once you get the skills you need in Doctor, you don't have to enter combat again. But you don't need to attack anything to get medical experience--in fact you get more medical experience if you don't attack. You just have to fill the healing role during combat.

We like to think of a doctor working in a hospital. However if you think on a person with extremly good medical abilities/skills it might be easier to understand why a doctor should accompany people to dangerous places, where they most likely would get hurt.

I do agree with you however that a doc shouldnt be "forced" to do this.
