Thread: Mining the area outside a player city hospital considered griefing? and why?
My charecter is the town doctor of a primarly IMP town on Lok (IMP and Neutral). I am waiting for my hospital to be built and once completed I had intended for it to becomemy place of residence, business ANDtown medical centre. A few minutes ago I waschatting with another player and theymentioned that placing land minesaround a medical centre is considered griefing. This was in fact what I had intended to do. My thought on this were - IfI was going to beovert healing in my own place of business, home and the town hospital I should be able to protect myself, or at least take measures to protect myself. Ihave seen merchants do this with their shops/residence's and didn't think it would be a problem.
Some of you might ask "Why be overt if you dont wanna get killed or involved in the GWC?" Well I am prepared to get killed in the GWC, just as a do now whensmoked by an overt because I healed an overt faction memeber at the starport (and got a TEF). I don't want to get bumped and locked out of my hospital (and yes it is mine, my lots,I paid for it and it would have been my declared residence), because I get a TEF for playing doctor to an overt faction memeber while I am covert.
I don't mind dying for my cause, but I do mindbeing unable to take, what I consider, reasonable measures to protectmyself. Now I have heard that hospitals are considered "public" buildings, but a member of an opposite faction decides tovisit a hospital. If they don't want to walk through a minefieldto use the hospital they could alwaysbuy a mouse droid for a few hundred credits or set up a camp outside of town, or better yet don't visit an opposed faction town.
Anyhow I am beginning to think that Imight be better toset up a medium house, call it a hospital and decorate it as such. That way it is technically still a home and I can mine the **edit** out of the area surrounding it. It's not like I was going to mine the shuttleport (though I like the idea) or cloning centre or something - just the area around the hospital.
MY HOSPITAL!!! ![]()
AnyhowI guess this is a rant, anyone else have any thoughts on this? Is this tactic considered griefing?
*lines are open* dial 1 IH8 TEF KICK
Be careful though. If you don't have anti-vehicle mines. People "coast" over minefields on vehicles then jump off in the safe area (you med center walkway near the door).
Placing mines around a clone center (before they stopped player clone centers from registering at "closest") was considered griefing (because people had to clone there with no other choice, at that time).
Sounds like confusion of several issues to me.

You are in an imperial town...
You use your own lots to place the hospital....
Player hospitals by nature of having to use a players lots are NOT public buildings.
Neutrals are not hampered by minefields, players of your own faction are not hampered by the minefield, coverts of the opposing faction are not hampered by the minefield (unless there is a covert scanner nearby)
to the people who claimed it was griefing, tell them to suck it up and find a different hospital/med center if they need healing.
Due to the nature of the GCW, I would not consider it greifing at all.
Anyone affected by the minefields cannot be healed by you anyway, so why would they be in your hospital?
Yay!!!
That's good enough for me, time to find me someanti vehicle mines
Another thing to consider:
The only people it would 'grief' would be people you couldn't heal anyways..
While you're overt you can heal other Imps and neutrals but not Rebels--the same people who wouldn't like the minefield.
This is, in no way, shape or form, any different from people who put Faction Scanners and mines around shuttleports.
I run the hospital in an imperial city on Lok also. Not only is it mined, but it's less than 40m from 3 faction bases.
You have every right to place minefields, turrets, commandos, and whatever else that makes ya happy if you so choose. Why? Because you took the time, the effort, the money, and the space to create and place your structure. You found a City to place it in. You take care of it on a regular basis using your own money. You have declared yourself to a position/side, whether being overt or covert (and yes, choosing neutral is a side. you arechoosing to remainout of the battle). You have accepted the risk of the GCW and have taken the measure to insure your own safety as well as your assets. If you don't want part of the war, don't invest your lots at a Player City....find a nice plot of land, break camp and make yourself a nice homestead with nothing to pose a threat to you or yours.
People will always **edit** and complain to you saying that you are griefing and you are being unjust, blah blah blah blah blah.....i hate whiners. Well, those people that are whining and moaning are usually those that decided to join a side before they were ready to back up that loud mouth of theirs. They have no right to complain. As an earlier post stated, there are markers placed down when a minefield is set. The markers will be seen and/or the message that usually pops up when you breach an enemy MF. That should be a good first warning that your kind is not welcome around here. If such a person is STUPID enough to continue on.....well, curiosity killed the cat. There should be nothing that an opposing force needs from hostile buildings except to create havoc and destruction. Why would a military unit seek healing in an enemy hospital? So they can heal up and then continue on the rampage they were on before they were slain or incapped? Doesn't sound very plausible to me. Aren't important buildings usually protected by force during times of war to prevent such things from happening?
I'm a Doctor and a crafter, and i have joinedthe Rebelscovertly. I take the same risk as does the Commando or TKA when going into unidentified towns, ie. 1st time visit to town by a character. If i just happen to load into the shuttleport and see that i am dead due to covert scanners and turrets, I learned a valuable lesson......DON'T GO BACK! Apparently i am not welcome there and i don't think it has anything i need, at least at the cost of my life. This concept shouldn't be hard to understand.
Anyways, just a little rant to those thatSHOULD have the right to do whatever is necessary to protect themselves and their investments without the harassment and b.s. that usually comes along with it. Sistere, i say lay down a **edit** blanket of mines and then surround with turrets. Make a bloody statement that only one kind of people are welcome there....your own kind!
