I was one of the first doctors on the Valcyn server. As far as I know, only Tale beat me to master. And this is for all you new people...the game was completly different back then. If you were a doctor you were neccessary part of a group! I couldn't be online for more than 2 min without getting a tell from someone doing a proffession search, or a fiend requesting, my presence on a hunt or other group activity. Two maybe three doctors/combate proffession came along just incase one doctor died. If there were no doctors in the group, the group would slowly get picked off one by one till we were all gone. We used to have a group of 15-20 players that would go to the nightsister stronghold. Now one person can solo the whole poi. I have to say, running around and being an integral part of a group that would not make it without me was a great gamming experiece.

I couldn't be online for more than 2 min without getting a tell from someone doing a proffession search, or a friend requesting my presence on a hunt or other group activity. Two maybe three doctors/combat profession came along just incase one doctor died. If there were no doctors in the group, the group would slowly get picked off one by one till we were all gone. We used to have a group of 15-20 players that would go to the nightsister stronghold. Now one person can solo the whole POI. I didn't start playing the game to be a doctor, but i had alot of fun playing a doctor in the field soI mastered it.

Now the main role of doctor involves getting a droid and spamming "2471 buffs 3.4 hours 10k" in front of the Coronet starport. With the overpowered armor, buffs, food&drink, and defence stack template, there is no need for healers in the field except for the Corvette and the DWB. I think that the role for doctor will once again be shifted back to combat support in the field. As it stands right now, an unbuffed person is combat retarded. The same system demanded that all players be buffed nerfed the need for a doctor in the field. Buffs now are only going to be 10% of your total health for long term "enhancers". Armor will not be as effective. Think of Mando and RIS as being balanced now and use it as the high end limit. Short term buffs will be limited to 20%. Players will not be able to spam specials at will and will once again have to work together to run missions and take on high end content. It will be more dynamic experience for doctors to once again partake in the joy of combat! And after a group member dies, he can be rezzed and get back in the fight will a quick stim E instead of having to be rebuffed. After all a 10% enhance is always nice, but with the changes a player is not going to have to be buffed to play. The game will be going back to group dynamics and a social experience not players shouting out "looking for a solo group, please send tell".

You may say we are being nerfed and I see alot of grumbling about the doctor profession being useless. If spamming in front of a starport is what you consider a good time in the game, then yes this is a nerf. Though i do have to say that the doctor profession will no longer be the huge money maker. If you enjoy crafting, as I do, then you'll just have to incorporate BE in your template. Sorry but that is the way of things and if crafting is your thing you'll have alot more options of things to make under the new system. The med crafting for the new stims and acually running missions in a group will give docs the ability to earn fair economic returns.

In short I don't agree with all the CU stuff, butI do think that it will bring the game back to what it was in the begining. A social escape for the real world were you could blow *&%$ up!

Too much coffee?

I agree, to an extent. However, the game has been this way for, what, at least 8 months, which is when I started playing. I honestly missed the hologrind days, field doc days, whatever. So for me, it's going to be a huge change, and maybe not for the better. I mean, I'm not rich, I don't run a buffbot or anything, but it is my primary source of income. Since missions don't always pay a huge amount, and I'm not a stacked dual-profession fighter.........you get the idea. Doc buffing helped pay for new armor on a skill grind.

I am glad for alot of the changes though. The armor change wil be nice (I mean, why do my hunting armor bracers affect my mind, and as much as my chestplate/helmet??), the extra skill requirements for a fighitng profession can be seen as a good thing, no more spam bots, macro docs and entertainers.......all good stuff. Some of the other things, though, I just don't agree with. True, I'll still be able to be Master Doc, and one Elite fighting profession, but I'll have to give up Scout (which for me, is a huge deal.........wookiees are naturally slow, 3x21 scout has been essential)..........eh.

We shall see........I'm holding off buying Rage, until I see what happens. Too bad, I was gonna pre-order, until I read all this.

Oh yes those were the days!

I can still remember running around trying not to gain the attention of a night sister or rancor, as I ran around healing a band of 15+ folks out on an adventure.

Thanks for reminding me why I started up the doctor tree. I do hope we return to the glory days.

I was in Eisley not too long ago when I saw someone shouting "forming mt squill hunting party" and about 7 people ready to go, so I thought why not take a walk down memory lane and play doc on a hunt.

Most players were pretty new so it was quite funny with people thinking you're "oh so cool!!!" because you can rez, I remember thinking what an incredible power it was to revive a player when i got it. Nowadays people think rez is a waste because the player will lose their buffs and be completely ineffective due to their powergaming playstyle.

CM's seem to be the way now with ranged healing, Doc healing in groups is a pain with people running around and trying to get within 7m of them while they're being aggroed by ER's like the old days.

Me: Get within 7m of me for a heal

Patient: ARRRRRGHGGGGHHHHHHH MMMEEDICC HHEELLPPP! /burstrunawayfromgroup

Ahh the good old days

Yes, I do look forward to combat to be more like the early days. Fighting in God mode isn't much fun for anyone. Great post!

Nice to see someone else who's keeping an open mind about the changes! And I agree, this is what I'm hoping too. (Though I'm also hoping we can keep some at-home business too. Some nights I just don't feel like running all over the place trying to keep up with a group.)
