If the goal of the CU is to get doctors and medics out into the field then they will need protection. It would be helpful if there were weapon and armor certs just for the Docs and medics, not tomake them into combat monsters but to allow them to simply live through the combat. Requiringthe adoption of a combat template would be doubly unfair to doctorssince they are being forced out into thefield. Respecing is good and all that but to force it on a player to make a profession useful would be unfair. Other classes might have to respec to keep what they have but it appears doctors may be forced to respec just to be able to play their profession if the field is the only place they will be useful.
In an advanced technological society, it would be easy envisioning themcreatingspecial armor for medics, better armor forthe more skilled ones. Perhaps such armor could have more severecombat restrictions as a sacrifice fordefensivecapabilities.
It would also be really cool to have docs and medicsidentifiable by their armor!

Most every other game is the same, short of EQ where clerics can wear Plate. Your fellow adventurers will need to protect you

what i dont like is how your gonna have to get certified to wear armor. The thing that kept me alive when i was a noob was a good set of marbari(sp?) armor that a weaponsmith gave to me for free. if i have to get armor as i go its gonna be alot tougher to master that required* combat profession
* i do belive that they'll make combat required (not physically of course, but if u wanna do anything) for doc's to survive. they are stressing doc as a combat profession more and more, thus they are gonna want all of us artisan/doctor/CM (who craft and buff for cash) to go out and fight
One can *assume* that you can wear uncerted armor...But I would also assume that if we can, we will have *HUGE* disadvantage to actually wearing it.

Spent months as a Doc in the begining with a stack of 5 max use stim with a volume of 5!!! and survived. That's right early trips and you had to stop and craft more stims depending on the healing you did! 5 volume for a Stim was insane, so little room for Docs!
Armor is not required for a Doc, not even in today's PVE game. Manage your hate.

Armor is not needed in the game at low levels. I mastered all marksman lines without armor. For that matter, I used a CDEF pisto for Pistols I-III. You don't NEED armor at the lower levels of this game, and you can get XP with no problem.
That much said, Docs do need some type of cert. They should not be better combatants in armor, but they should have significantly fewer to no penalties for healing while in armor (except themselves). We don't want everyone being a *weapon*/doc. *weapon*/medic is fine for solo players. *weapon*/doc should only be useful to grouped players. (I'd like to see a game where medics are good for solo work, and doc is well rewarded for grouping.)

Actually we won't be able to wear uncerted armor.

I would hope that we get at least some certifications. I'm not naive enough to think we'd qualify to wear composite *even if you'd want to for that matter.* However, without any armor at all, it will be very rough (at best) for higher end mobs, which would probably be the type of mobs we'd face often if we're needing to heal for groups when the CU hits.

Yeah I read that today as I was reading...my bad.
On the flip side, I don't think armor will be the same as it is today. Odds are we will do just fine w/o armor.

Don't forget that there will be aggro-management. We'll have better tanks in our groups that can help pull aggro off us. Though if the system is like other MMO's, that means we'll generate a lot of hate while healing, adding a more dynamic combat system.
Plus, the Devs have stated that there will be multiple downsides to wearing armor, so chances are it would be something we'd want to avoid, with the exception of maybe some light armor.

Have any of the other forums discussed the fact that, at present, the comp level armor requires buffs to even wear? I wonder if we'll need a buff to wear advanced armor under the CU...

Weapons certs are nothing new, but the armor could be an issue. I've got four sets of wookiee hunting armor that I might not be able to wear again for awhile, so I'll have to go buy "uncerted" armor. The other concern, obviously, is if I retain doc, and one Master Elite (no jedi, of course), will I be able to wear higher powered armor, or will I be left with inferior protection? It would make sense if Master Doc were considered an Elite Combat profession, since they want us out in the field. That's one of the questions I've asked a couple of times, and still no answer from the devs.

I would assume so, but dunno. I'm sure that the armor will definantly hamper your fighting power.

You mean like via encumberance and such? Better defense but weakened offense, that sort of thing?
