Im a Master Doctor, Master Riflewoman.
There are no more 'perfect templates'.
Rifleman do lots of damage, but takes alot of damage in close combat.
Pistoleer have many great attacks that really screwes up the opponent, but they do not have any decent damage-dealing shots.
I havnt tried Carbineer and Commando yet, but I guess they are balanced the same.
My suggestion is that you go for the 'roles' the professions are meant to be rather than digging into details.
Riflemen are very strong at long range, and can kill stuff without even attracting their attention, but they die quick in short range.
Carbineer are meant to be good against groups and have many crippling shots.

Pistoleer are highly defensive and meant to 'soften up' opponents through even more crippling specials than Carbineer (but less area attacks).

Hmm Gravitating toward Pistoleer (Doc self defense arm), or even Smuggler.

I'm currently (well at least before CU) Master Doc, CM 2144, and Pistoleer 0020. While the online character builders indicate it ought to be possible to respec to Master Doc/Master CM and Novice Pistoleer, respec seems to be broken and won't allow it.
I'm pretty sure I want to be Master CM. If I give up crafting meds, what parts of doc are still useful? I went fighting tuskens yesterday and managed to cure myself, but I had no idea what I was doing, or which skills kick in on which levels.

On the test server I have tried Mdoc/everything. I think my favorite is Mdoc/Mrif/pist0004. My second favorite was Mdoc/Msmug and Mdoc/Mpist. I really didnt like commando,BH,and carabiner or any of the melee prof. If you havent and can you should sign on test and try them out and see what you like

Well I'm trying to build a support character, so I'm currently Master Doc, and leveling up Smuggler. I'm hoping I'd be able to be main healer of a group, and do some crowd control when needed.

TKM/MDoc.
Tanking + Healing, and I can take a lot of damage. Although the lack of damage is a relative downside (especially solo), I like how the two professions fit together so well.
Reading through the topic, I'm growing to the idea of MRifles/MDoc, all the other templates seem very nice as well. I think I've got some thinking to do...

Doc/CM so far is crushing in pvp! add it to any combat profession even a starter profession. If you want to be a functioning doctor in combat go for something with a fast weapon speed so you can still heal group.
