Thread: Armor Recommendations?
Hello,
Right now I'm extremely frustrated with armor. Any time I put on my chitin armor, I'm hit so hard by mind encumbrance, and receive so little extra protection, that it just doesn't seem worthwhile wearing armor. Well, if figured, "Chitin is pretty low level armor. Get better armor and you'll get some real protection, without so much encumbrance." Well, I talked to some of my guild friends and they say that even the high-level armors don't seem to make much difference (at least for PvE). They still get one-hit killed by non-trivial mobs.
So, my question is: IS there ANY armor worth wearing for a Doc? Is there any armor that is especially good for Docs cause it has low mind encumbrance?
Armorsmiths can make very low encumberance armors at the cost of not increasing the protection stats as much. Armor is very situational in this game. It's not supposed to be something that you wear all the time like in other games, unless you get the faction armors (Stormtrooper, Rebel Commando).
When I go out for serious hunting I wear a chitin suit and buff my stats, then I only have to worry about healing 1/4 as much.
I normally only equip the helmet when there's a pack of mobs attacking me or when I seem to be taking a lot of mind hits.
can anyone makeshield generators with good protection? that could be a solution to wearing armor. I haven't seen many shield generators on scylla but they seem to offer protection in the 3-5% range. What class makes these and how much better can they get?

Scylla
Our PA on Scylla sells Personal Shield Gens Mk III... 15% protection from memory. Definitely worth having, although not so good for heavy combat because if it gets to 0 condition it goes bye-bye. Also repairing them, like weapons, will slowly decrease it's maximum condition potential.
Basically, shield gen is good for covering you when you don't expect to get into combat.. but don't want tobe totally exposed if you do. It's also good when you are up against stupidly powerful rangedopponents, like Singing Mountain Clan guardians and Nightsisters.
Luckily I am carbineer and creature handler.. so I rarely actually have to tank... hence I can mostly be found in my white doctor's atture.
But when the going gets tough, I have a macro to instantly equip my chitin armor.. and soon as the heat is off I hit F11 to activate my doctor's attire macro and switch back to clothing.
P.S. Send an email ingame to Forcer or Snipe for personal shield gens.. and tell em Soren sent you. ![]()
