Thread: Docs in PvP Advice please

I have been a Master Doc for a while, but when it comes to PvP, I suck.

I can't seem to find people in my group who need healing fast enough. Right now I use the Ctrl - # method to highlight people and then try to follow them and heal them. I usually end up hitting 2 or 3 keys before I find the right person and then I can onlyfind the first 9 people like this.

Does anyone have any tips for me to finding and healing people quickly in combat?

Right now I have almost everything ona hot key like:

HealDamage

CureAllStates

CureAllDots

Drag

Rez

etc. My real problem is finding and getting to the injured fast enough.

Thanksin advance for any help.

I would not try to make it overly difficult or worse than it needs to be.

Just keep an eye on the Group List and when you see someone that needs something click on them in the Group List and hit a hotkey you have set to /follow. At that point you just have to wait until you are within range to hit the appropriate hotkey to heal what you need to.

The other thing I would highly suggest is have a little talk with your group about what you need from them also though. Things such as not running around wildly screaming for a heal while you chase them. Let them know that if they need a heal they need to be somewhat stationary or you can not reach them in time. Other than that there is probably not a lot more you can do.

I always run a healstate macro also and that way you never need to hotkey those... just click on someone and when your macro fires off (mine is set to every 4 seconds but you can play with that). By using this you don't have to worry about healstates and instead can concentrate on healing damage on the player you have targeted (and that states get healed while you are doing that). You could also macro your curePoison and cureDisease commands but it has been noted that if you do this with Area Cures in your inventory it will burn a charge every time regardless of whether or not anyone needed it so I wouldn't macro that... can get expensive if you use up an entire Area Cure Pack inadvertently.

Nothing else I can think of right now... it's all about planning I guess. If you are fighting somewhat ranged make sure you tell your group to stay tightly bunched also (unless someone is using a Spin Attack on them) so that you can easily toss your Area Cures and hit the maximum number of people you need to.

Thank you very much Alei.

I feel like such as noob, I never new about clicking on the group list. That and the macro to heal states are great ideas. Thanks so much.

As for planning, ya I always try to get them to stay near me for area cures but PvP often gets hectic.

Thanks again for your advice, that should help a lot.

While I am thinking of it... here is that macro so you don't even need to drag the state stims to your toolbar.

/healState Blinded;

/healState Dizzy;

/healState Intimidated;

/healState Stunned;

/pause 4;

/macro states

This is if you name your macro 'states' when you create it it will just recursively loop for you and do healState's if needed on whatever you have targeted (or yourself if nothing is targeted). I just started into the world of macros while fighting so Aelei is always running this one and also his CenterOfBeing macro and a macro that does Warcry and Intimidate every 10 seconds also. Don't know how I lived without them.

/healState Dizzy;

/healState Intimidated;

/healState;

That one is mine. Dizzy is numero uno and Intimidation a VERY close second. The rest of the states can just wait their turn.

/stand;

/healState Dizzy self;

That one saves my ass too. *nods*

I have found it's easier to keep my group healed if I'm keeping myself healed first - try running a macro (if it doesn't lag you out too much) that loops (I know this is getting nerfed) and does self, and then using the other commands you have set up to heal your group. It's also harder to get states off yourself when in combat because the target is the enemy - using a macro that specifies self fixes that problem.

People in my group know to either come within range of me for area heals (poison/disease) or to run to me when they are on fire for a blanket. If you state your limitations to your group (like you can't be running after them, while they are running after someone else) and be firm about them, even letting people die that refuse to listen, will make your job so much easier.

Using the group list is a much better way to see where people are and who needs your help. Adding people to your friend's list and using /findfriend helps when someone has gone out of range or happens to not be in your group, but needs your help.

Thanks very much to all of you for your great advice.

It is very difficult keeping track of people and running after them to heal, so I will definately talk to my group andask them to run to me when they need help instead of me running around everywhere.

Yes.. most important piece of advice is to talk to the group..

I've seen very tough groups decimated by being spread out too thin and making it impossible for the healer to do their work..

Try to have everyone in smaller groups with healers assigned.

Easier said than done though..

Depending on the battle and skill level of the players, let them come to you, rather than you trying to run all over the place. If you get tef'd yer a target before the rest.

STORE CLONE DATA at the closest place you can. You are gunna die and need to come back asap, and as undamaged as possible.

As much as it sucks, grab some CM, I had 4404 (refused to craft more lol).

Area stims cure faster and keep you out of aggro a little better, and heal multiple players at a time.

You MUST be able to heal minds to be of any use.

Have drag, rez kits, stims, mind heal on hot bars.

Have one set of hot keys for buffin, one for combat.

Don't chase after the lone runner. SOmeone may run out 200 meters after something, and if you run after them, you leave the rest uncovered. Find out who the TANKS are, and cover them.

Auto-it... leads to the dark side.

Stun is important, if someone is stunned their defenses drop a bit and their offenses are slower.. so I leave that in after the two you mentioned..

I have a drag incap macro

/drag;
/pause 1;
/macro dragem;

Fire that off and all you have to do is target a person and drag them to safety...
