Thread: Doctor questions relating to CH and Pistols
I've played around with tons of different hybrid set ups but haven't tried much dealing with medic skills yet. The doctor profession looks very promising but I have a few questions.
Now I've been spoiled for a while and am used to hunting solo with big CH pets as tanks. Is it possible to solo hunt decent paying missions as a doctor? I know that before this upcoming patch that doctors could effectively use beetles, but now being limited to level 10 pets would that change?
The main reason I'm looking at doctor is for the buffs and big heals. Do you find that resources are fairly easy to come by on your servers? They don't have to be the absolute best resources known to exsist, but at least good enough for decent enhance D's and nice stimpacks. If not..would I find myself wasting alot of time having to set up harvestersor search high and wide forpre-made supplies?
I do like to pvp quite a bit and I'm very fond of the pistoleer tree. The big question comes down to whether it would be better to take higher pistol skills or try to scrounge points into CH for a decent pet.
Does anyone feel like sharing their template and explaining the pros and cons with it? I'm interested to see if alot of people go for things like warning shot. Terrain negotiation is a must for me so I'm interested to hear how the master doc/master pistoleer people fare.
Thanks for any sugestions or tips anyone feels like offering.
Master Doctor, 0-0-4-0 pistoleer (0-4-0-0 marksman) 0-0-4-0 scout 0-0-0-4 artisan oh yea, and master medic. and Im maxed out.

there are some things that you must know if you want to become a doc. There are three ways for us to get resources, collect them ourselves (like I do) buy them (people jack up prices for medical resources) or have friends find them for you. (I can't rely on others enugh for this) if your looking for the big buffs, or the big heals you will need to make advanced components, the resources for these are rare, hard to find, and currently, on my server only about 2 of the 5 harvestable resources are avalable. You will also need Avian meet and herbivore meat. (in mass quantities) in order to get the big buffs, or the big heals, this is the first requierment.
the next requierment is skill. If you make your own meds, you absolutly need to be a master doc, if not, you will only make crap. If you dont make your own meds, you will need a med use of at least 75, witch happens at the third box on the medicine use tree. (0-0-3-0) if you want your buffs to be anything close to averaging at least 1000 then you will also need wound treatment (4-0-3-0) this is the magic number if you want your buffs to be worth saving the 5k a pop you spend on someone else giving them to you, and thats if you have someone who can consistantly supply you with good buffs (witch are almost impossable to produce in mass quantity enugh to supply others with)
basicly, what Im saying is if you want to have the ability for good healing, and good buffing your probably going to have to go master doc. you could pull off master doc/master pistoleer, but you would have to rely on others for your resources.
here are some things to think about when you are planning to exploit doc so you can solo: enhance Ds are only usable at around 75 med use, witch is about the third box up on medicine use. If you want to make you own Ds, then you also have to get the 4th box on crafting, but you will only have 6 experimentation points, and you won't be able to make the secondary D buffs. To effectively use buffs, your going to have to have as much wound ant injury treatment as possable, becaue those are dependent on how much you can buff for, you could get the aid of bio-engineered clothes, but it wont really help untill about the 3rd box up on both these skills. Now, if you want to just buy your buffs from someone, and use them on your self, you will still need high numbers in the wound treatment tree, otherwise your buffs will stink. but, If you do want to make your own meds, you have two choices, buy your resources, or get them yourself. I have found that buying my resources proved to be too expensive, hence the scout and artisan. But now that they are nerfing my beloved fgw5, Im not sure what Im going to do with pistol.
or, the short verson of it. Don't become a doc if you just want to buff yourself.
Thanks for the great info but let me clarify a couple of things. If I end up deciding to go for doctor it would definitly be all the way to master. I don't have any experience with harvesters and such so I have no idea how many and what size would be effective to support resources for myself.
I also don't want doctor for the sole purpose of buffing myself though that is a definite plus since at certain times I play I can't seem to find any doctors around at all. I would eventually like to sell medical supplies and of course offer buffs to others.
I'm just curious how people set up their template to still allow them to solo effectively in both pve and pvp. Or if that is even possible.
ok, my template is this (and Im maxed out in skill points)
pistoleer 0-0-4-0 This gives me the most powerfull skill shots, plus some pretty awesome defenseve skills.
scout 0-0-4-1 this is for hunting the avian meat for my enhance packs, and for the herbivore meat for my advanced components
artisan 0-0-0-4 I need those servey skills to find the resources I need.
and for soloing things, I cant really solo anything past about level 30.
my doctor is pretty self-seficiant (sp) when it comes to getting his own resources, it seemed to be the only way, otherwise I would have to pay all the money I earned into buying resources. but if you can find them for cheap, prefrerably for free, that would ne the way to go, and you could free up your skills into more combat.
I have a medium water harvester, 2 medium flora farms, and 2 medium chemical harvesters, with of course a wind and solar harvesters for the energy. I lucked out on the harvesters, I have a archetect friend.
it was hard going for me untill I hit master Doc, I had to rely on missions for cash, but I made it, and at master doc, I found many ways to make cash.
that was how I did it, but Im sure there were others that did it better than I.
I again apologise for assuming that you were in it for the buffs, it wouldnt have been writting if it wernt for the lack of an edit button.
welcome to the doctor profession.
Thanks again Nematocyzed...After dong some more research and looking at the chracter builder I've come up with this:
Master Doc
Master Medic
Scout 4 0 4 0
Marksmen 0 4 0 3
Pistoleer 0 0 4 2
