Thread: And you thought Holocrons messed with the profession

Well, the DEVs have slated doctor to be the next profession everyone will scream about needing a nerf. With the removal of defense stacking many people are talking about changing over to doctor so they can self buff and use the high level meds. This is due to the fact that it only takes 92 skill points to master 7 of the elite combat professions. I know that there are already a lot of combat/doctors out there, but I foresee more of them in the no stacking goes into effect.

What do you think, will more people move to doctor when they can no longer dabble to stack skillz?

This actually already exists.

TKA/DOC is already a very popular template for soloists... But htey need to get their medic/Doc xp off of other players.

I've run into a lot of them tumble healing recently.. more-so then before.

Carbineer/Doc is also a popular combination (and one that I used personally for some time). Carbineers have some cool skills, but their HAM costs are terribly high. Pair those skills with the HAM control powers of a doc and you've got a nasty combo.

Really, just about any combat profession paired with doc is nasty. That's just the way it goes. I think you may see a lot of folks picking up doctor but, unlike with the Holocron craze, they'll probably be looking to hold on to doctor fora while as it helps their combat skills.

Doc goes well w/ most professions.

A very good utility profession, both in groups and solo.

I'm partial to Carbine or Polearm myself (mostly for style reasons), but they all work.

Not every powergamer is a "template of the month" person. Something + Doc is a nice solid combo that is gonna last, so less timi is spent changing to the template of the month.

You can get a lot done with a very effective character, no reason to have to go spastic on something you know will be fixed eventually.

Nicely said, T. I started as a doc and I'm still a doc. My other professions have changed over the months (carbineer, fencer, combat medic to name a few), but I have always remained a doctor. One of the biggest reasons for this is that, no matter what else I decide to do, doctor is always a great profession to have. It just makes everything else better.

I personally think 0440 Doc/Combat prof is more common. Even those that do go master, some probably try to make a buff pack and figure its not worth it. Even a set of 6 crates at 3-4 million isn't much to many of the soloists now and that lasts quite a while and is about half the cost as buffs.

I see more and more docs turn off there title because they don't want to sit and buff for hours on end. I can't count the number of buffs I've gone without just because I had to wait 10+ minutes for one. I would assume most masters would rather sell me buff packs at half their buff price.

On Test Center, I am seeing many newer combat types grab Doc, both because of its advantages, and because finding a Doc on TC can be rather a challenge.

Second, Doc stacks with everything. What makes those other professions look less desireable is that one combat profession will add nothing to another combat profession, while Doctor does add. Thus, Doctor is better for soloists.

For example: a pistoleer/marksman is no more powerful than a pistoleer or a marksman. A pistoleer/doctor is more powerful with all the self-buffing. No other advanced class can currently claim this, except maybe combat medic.

I started as a Doc, and I want to keep Doc. Everything else will come and go.

i have been in the medic prof since i started playing the 3rd month of game release. Before the Holocrons i was very happy with my Master Combat Medic, Dr 0/4/4/0, Carbineer 0/3/0/4 (my template of choice) and will prolly return to that template after i unlock my FSCS.

With that set-up i was able buff, rez, cure states along with the MCM skills and i had all the area effect specials that came with carbineer. Quite a fun combo to have in either PvE or PvP.

well i'm chasing holo profs now, i (with much pain and sorrow) drpopped my MCM enroute to Master Squad Leader but mastered Dr and carbineer on my way there. Currently i no longer have Carbineer but my Master DR is still there. Having only carbines 1 i am now Master Dr, Squad Leader 0/4/0/4. I find that a Doctor/SL mix is one bad ass support combo. I just with i could master Dr and SL at the same time, but the points won't allow it. Master SL with Dr 0/4/4/0 is the best you can do. What i'm getting at is I am trying to do everything in my power to keep as much Dr as i can.

Wrecking the prof and calling for nerfs, i just don't see it. I think the more 0/4/4/0 Doctors out there the less sit-n-buff we need to do and the more enhance packs we sell. This only helps the serious Master Doctors out.

Great! More people to seel my products too since most of these guys probably wouldn't bother with crafting. Never the less, sounds good to me. As for nerfing us, why? You only need master medic to heal damage. Doctor improves on wound treatement and adds cures/state heals/buffs. These are nice but nowhere near as nice as the damage healing.

I think you guys are missing the point of my post. I am not denying that Doctor is not great combination with any of the combat professions and is pretty solid on it's own. I am also not denying the fact that many people have picked up Doctor to aid in thier combat profession. What I am saying is that when the defense stacking "nerf" hits, many of the pure combat players will migrate over to doctor because it is such a nice support profession. All the pistolieer/fencer/tka will change to doctor/tka in order to pickup some of the abilities.

Basically, what profession(s) will the uber combat template players take up once the stacking is removed? I think it will be doctor.

I don't think so. I've met quite a few players who while absolutely depending on buffs, do not become doctors, they simply depend on either they're guild docs, or finding one at a popular spot. In fact I've become one of them. I used to be a doc/pistoleer, now I'm a pistoleer/smuggler... but my stats are still slanted entirely towards mind stats. I depend on others for buffs, otherwise I don't do much. 400 health and action don't get you too far in combat.
