I harvest the resources if i can, but for things like a dolovite iron (rare spawn ) I buy from vendors, only baazzzars if i cannot find anything on vendors to buy...medical forage is worthless for crafting, and pretty much worthless for finding out resource qualities.

I've never used medical forage, what exactly does it yield?
