Thread: Question on FS skills for Doctor

For background: I am master Doc, have no interest in going for jedi. I have only a few skill pts left to spend. I have gotten my old man visit, done the sith, went to the village. I get zero unlocks. OK.

Question: The only FS skill that looks worthwhile is the healing column on the enhanced senses tree. Is this correct? IOW will it help my buffs, etc? I do a fair amount of crafting, anything on the crafting tree worthwhile for Doc? I only have enough skill points for a couple columns at most.

Second question: Assuming I want the healing column on the senses tree ... ok that's at phase 4, according to the published info. Do I have to wait for phase 4 to do anything? Can I finish the medical quest now, does that help at all? Or will I have to do the med quest again when phase 4 comes out? Is it a different reward for each phase?

My guess is that I simply wait for phase 4 to do anything. But if I could do the med quest now, that would be something to have some fun with. But I assume that (at the current phase 1) it only opens up a column I dont want. And Im not sure if I will have to do the med quest AGAIN (for the same reward?) when phase 4 comes out.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just pretty confused

If you want the Healing Branch of Enhanced Senses you will have to wait until Phase IV to unlock and train it. However, you can train the bottom novice box in the tree. You can also convert and save enough fs xp to fill an entire branch without reaching the cap. You do not have to unlock any branches to convert xp. If you saved up ahead you could train the branch up at the very beginning of Phase IV.

Unfortunately you have noticed that there is no Wound Healing skill in the Healing branch. The healing branch might help out a Medic, but will be of little or no help to a Master Doc.

Thanks for the fast reply!

OK, it looks like I may not go for the FS skills at all

Unless someone else has thoughts on the usefulness of FS skills for non-jedi?

Are any of the quest rewards worthwhile to do? I could do them now, and not lose any skill points.

Hey There,

I'm a doctor on Eclipse and I got Force Experimentation/Assembly 4. The difference is amazing successes. Right now about 1/5 is an amazing, before I got those two branches it was about 1/10-1/12.

The schematics I use for ABECs are always amazing experimented, I can now get a double amazing in about 10 ABECs, a big improvement over the past, where sometimes I'd craft 100 of them without a double amazing.

So, yes it gives a benefit and only cost 8 points, but for non crafting doctors its not worth it. And it doesn't let you experiment further than anyone else, resources still cap that.

In your situation, this is what I'd do, personally:

Go have fun, and unlock all your skill branches, get novice in all 4, and stop for the time.

This way, you'd have all the options open and available to you at all times. Keep converting your xp, keep training up novice, and keep doing the quests for unlocks, just don't bother wasting skill points right away, and don't expect it to help directly with your doc stuff.

A good example of this is getting something like vehicle control. No, it won't help your doc skills in the least, but it allows you to have a bit more fun elsewhere in the game... Maybe be the dominating force on all the race tracks, or just make your travel a bit faster.

An easy one at this point would be the persuasion tree. All med crafting in the village, and it's not too tough. Unlock, get your necklace, and get your plant (one of the COOLEST decoration items I've ever seen!). Sure, you're not grinding for anything specific, but the quests are cool, and enjoyable

The information so far seems to indicate this will help greatly with experimentation rolls.

If you plan on being a crafting doc and collecting +20 points worth of medical eperimentation tapes...then I would suggest you get these certs.

If you will buy your meds, then I would say to put your points elsewhere as this tree will definitely not add a bonus to any of your buffs, it will add an extra bonus to the heals of your stims though.

Aradz, I like your approach! I think for now I will do that, just quest and do novice boxes. I sure wish the FS did not use skill points! To really do them I would have to give up either my one combat mastery (Sword) or novice artisan, which I really need to gather resources.

I did the healing quest at the village yesterday and had a lot of fun with it. I just wish the necklace worked for doc and not CM ... maybe later quests will give something for docs. I am only a 10 pt crafter, but I do make a lot of my own stuff, and medical supplies for sale, so extra experimental pts would help a lot! I have the apron, so +5 exp pts would be wonderful.

Now that I understand it a little better, I like the idea of just trying to fill the novice boxes. I may eventually look into the crafting lines, but the problem there seems to be that getting all that FS crafting xp looks painful! Since I got no free unlocks, that would mean crafting another 10 jillion A-BEC by hand ... is anyone actually planning to do this?

Any other thoughts on the village for Docs is welcome

That's my approach for the time

I do intend to go jedi eventually, but the WHOLE REASON they changed the system was because the ONLY way to do it before was grinding. As it is now... you CAN grind it if you want, but not very fast (grinding = very little gain). Rather, if you just PLAY rather than work, you'll get there in about the same time, and have much more fun doing it

As for the idea of grinding to get the crafting boxes filled... yikes. Maybe a little here and there, sure, but not constant. I'll knock off a couple ABECs while I'm sitting in corospam buffing, or mos eisley med center helping, but it's not going to be a constant thning I focus on.

About the only thing I'm upset about is that I cap at 80k med xp. If I do a buff line, I hit that in 12 patients or so, and that's QUICK. I'd end up spending all the money I earned buffing people in travel , so instead I just let it max, and convert it after the line is done, and I have time to get back to Aurilia. I'll have senses completed in... a year I guess, won't see any of the benifits, or get my glowstick for a long long time

Ah well, my combat end should be fine. Trips back and forth from Aurilia to rancor valley... I might become the premere dath leathery hide dealer on Radiant!
