Thread: sigh
Maybe I'll make an architect, merchant or otherwise non combat profession so that I don't have to worry about nerfs. Or maybe I'll do the unthinkably dastardly deed of picking up a controller and playing a console game, at least until something comes out that strikes my fancy (VTM: Bloodlines and Half Life 2, you're calling my name)...
"nerf pistols!" such a common cry these days, ive been a pistoleer since beta and am about at my wits end, so please allow me to clarify on a few things
1) Pistoleer as it stands now:
Disarm 2: from what i understand was never intended to be a ranged KD, apparently was bugged, while i do think its rather odd that Smuggler and BH get a ranged KD with the same weapon, pistol still has melee defense 1, so its really a non-issue. COE KD, soon to be removed, which is fine. My only problem with this special is that frankly I (nor anyone else I know)have nodesire to harm anyone's weapons. It has been suggested that possibly this shot could be made to unequip an opponents weapon, i dont know, this is debatable.
Multitarget Shot: Broken
Bodyshot 3: Broken, consistently does as much or less damage than Bodyshot 2 (Marksman), yet at a higher HAM cost.
Pistol Melee Defense 2: Remains broken, has no KD effect at all, yet at a higher HAM cost. With Melee Defense 1 at the first combat box its no surprise many people just stop there.
Disarm 1: does typical damage, however seems to have no "disarming" effect at all.
One of the Pistoleers greatest strengths is supposed to be the Defense Mods we obtain, however they also all seem to be broken.
Now, admittedly Pistoleer, even with these problems can function rather effectively within reason. i have as of late, seen alot ofnegativity towards pistoleers and blasters in general, i think alot of this stems from many players ignorance between the inherent similarities/differences between Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, and Pistoleer, people, are all too quick to lump the three of us together which toa certain degree is understandable.
Alot of classes need work and attention, the majority of them are much more broken than Pistoleer, which is unfortunate. Everytime a Pistoleer tries to get some of the problems addressed the thread turns into "omg, you think thats bad look at my class" contest. Let's face it this early in the game, all fields need work, attention and balancing but i think we can all agree that we each want our respective classes functioning properly.
2) Regarding the apparent confesion as to the rise of Novice Pistoleers as of late, I think there are two large factors in this
a) Pistoleer, although in many ways still broken, is actually sadly still less broken then many other classes, providing alot of people witha fun and viable way to play at the present time.
b) I really think this one is a much bigger factor than many people wil realize. In the last few weeks, i too have noticed a increase in teaching requests/new pistoleers about. Conversely i've also noticed a decrease in Tera Kasi artists, and an almost extinction (at least on my server) of TKA Masters.
WithTKA already at the enormous disadvantage of not being able to move while fighting (why is this neccesary? it's unrealistic and crippling) ,increasing the HAM cost of thier specials as dramatically as has happened recently is frankly, just adding insult to injury. I wish there was some way to track the ratio of people who have dropped TKA and picked uppistol, im guessing it'squite large.
3) The Great BH Vs Pistol Debate:
I think many Bounty Hunters overall would be surprised to find that most Pistoleeers hold no ill will against them at all, I personally think Bounty Hunters are exceptional, and should be deadly. Many Bounty Hunters seem to have the misconception that Pistoleeers want to be the most powerful class of all, and frankly this justisnt true. Conversely, many Pistoleers, view Bounty Hunters as invading dabblers who come in for melee defense 1 and a few other boxes while already having incredibly good Pistol Specials on their own.
A Bounty Hunters strength should be his broad knowledge of combat/weapons, a Pistoleer's strength (and perhaps limitation)should be his broad knowledge of combat with a Pistol. So,i do think its logical that a master pistoleer should give a master BH a very hard time in a one on one duelWITHPISTOLS. However, in any other situation, the Pistoleer should have some serious worrying to do. Hopefully, the addition of some higher cert weapons/fixing of Melee Defense 2, and the Defense Mods (for all classes)working will balance theseout a bit. I think alot of Pistoleeers frankly just find it disheartening to think another class, even at less than master level, is superior totheir use of the same weapon, even if mastered.
Regarding a Bounty Hunters knowledge, one suggestion i have is the addition of traps for Bounty Hunters that work vs humanoids, not only does it make complete logical sense given thier field, it really opens the door to some spectular attacks/effects and at the same time justifies their (often puzzling)investment in mastering Scout.
Heh, well I intended to keep this brief, hopefully, something postitive will come of this thread, best wishes to you all and happy gaming.
What good is wayfaring except for camo's which I am told is broke? I was told it was a big boost to movement but this is not right at all. My brother does not have anything in wayfaring and I am maxed out and he keeps up with me on hills and even burst runs (his last same time mine does). I am one box away from Master Ranger (Still have a few more tents to make) and all my friends are scouts (not master scouts just halfway) and they perform as well as I do running/harvesting/using traps. Sure I might get 15 to 20 more meat per harvest but I sure paid a lot for those few extra meat/hides/bone.
Tracking is kinda neat but don't work well. I am maxed out in tracking and I will track and see nothing on the screen then move 60 meters forward and have reds pop almost on top of me hmmmm nice tracking.
Trapping - well the main one's I use you get as a scout and worked just as good then as now so thats wasted points (I am maxed in this one also).
oh well no purpose to this post except to vent.
Elrod Longrange
Feel your pain bro.
Cept I use tracking a lot. See what players are around me, any known baddies I can mess with? Out in the weeds, I max out my radar, then use /ar to see what those dots are. Not perfect, but it helps.
I agree, the TN sucks and needs to be looked at. I can see the Devs problem (a lot of friends are programmers, 3 arms, live on warm pepsi and cold pizza) in that it should only apply in the wilds, and how to tone it down in the cities.
Harvesting, gotta disagree with ya. That extra couple, 5, 10 hides makes a difference in the long run. I want to go on a kill the beastie/harvest run, I go solo to avoid the 60% rule. I can get way more stuff in the average run than any Scout. I tested it...novice scout gets 5-7, I was taking 10-15. Not too shabby, and it makes killing some low level animals worth it...durnis give 10 hides, hmmm.
Once they fix maskscent and camo, and address our issues, life will be good. Until then, it ain't bad...
Off to kill happy lil animals
JB
anyway, mastering fencer was the best proff i did
