I am outraged by the number of postsI read saying something like, "doctors will be needed to heal combat damage." Having played both as a MCM and Master Doctor, doctors are second-class damage healers to combat medics.
Combat medics do not have the 6 meter range limitation. Having to run about 7 meters to heal someone 30 meters away will always beat running 24 meters. (Plus Combat Medics have the built in terrain neg.!)
Combat medics have a more favorable timer for healing damage. Admittably, however, this could be offset with the addition of the FS bonus to injury treatment. But, additional force skills won't help me run within 6 metersof a player to use a stim.
Most important are area heals. When I can see a group of hunting-mates taking damage, I could just throw an area-C stim in the middle, heal every person within 14 meters of the target, and avoid the individual attention demanded by our current stims. Further, if one group member, or a petbecame extremely damaged, I would just throw the ranged stim-D for higher level healing on a single target.
Some of this post was in the past tense. I am currently an Ithorian Doctorworkingto master (3-4-3-3)and was previously a Bothan MCM/Master Doctor. (Returned to the game after about 6 months.) 85-90% of my combat healing was accomplished with ranged stims and healstate (MCM and novice doctor). And most of what I could not do just havingnovice doctor was manageable. (Heal damage works wonderson poison andnon-pvp diseases are a joke.)
So why would I remain a doctor if the argument is, "doctors will still be needed to heal combat damage"? And the wound treatment bonusesargument will not sell me. As a master medic I am competent enough to deal with wound damages from battle.
Right now I say there better be some additional benefits to doctors in the new CU that we do not know about. How about an abilityto reduce warmup and cooldown time? Doctors could use a strong role incybernetics too! (It would be nice if attaching cyberneticsbecame similar to an image designer's stat migrate. The more advanced the cybernetic limb, the longer it too to attach. That would allow us to charge by the second! You have to love billable seconds!)

In my experience, Doctors have almost been in the Field anyways. While we can't heal nearly as "fast" (Due to our 7m range and getting "Out of range" a lot). I really don't think much will change. Doctors will always be a back up healer when a CM is in the group. But we will see how the CU is changing this.

A cm can heal more effictively, but i see doctors being the ones to heal off states and such as they always have.

CM skills are great for the pure damage healing, I agree with that.
But in my experience, a group without someone who can cure Poisons or Diseases, or status effects, is doomed. In the current game, PvE might not require this, but a PvP group without a Doc using area poison/disease cures and state cures will be in trouble. CM ranged and area heals are great (which is why CM is part of my template), but CM is purely a damage healer in that case. Doctor skills play a more important part, in my opinion, then the CM would overall.

I think they have overlooked/mixed up these 3 classes.
- Medic
- Doctor
- Combat Medic
Combat Medic is by far, superior when healing.
The only use a Doctor would have, would be a field buff. This is so insane, and it's really making me angry.

That may no longer be true after the CU.
