Thread: Trying to understand TEFs
I'm hoping you all can help me to understand TEFs as they are now. I'm currently a neutral Doc/Novice CM in a PA of mixed coverts & neutrals. I'm considering going Covert Imperial, but I want to make sure that I can still heal everyone for PvE creature/NPC (non-factioned) hunts.
Here's the way I understand the TEFs would work, please let me know if I'm wrong.
As a covert Imperial:
- I can heal ANY non-TEF/non-overt person and I'm okay and don't get a TEF.
- I can heal any overt Imperial and I would get a TEF.
- I can't heal overt Rebels at all.
- I can heal any covert-TEF Imperial and I would get a TEF.
- I can't heal covert-TEF Rebels at all.
- If I have a TEF I can't heal any overt rebels, but can heal covert rebels. And I can be killed by any overt rebel.
Did I get that right?
I'd say that both #5 & #6 are a little off.
5. You CAN heal covert-TEF Rebels, and this will give you a TEF allowing you to be killed by Overt Imps.
6. If you are TEFfed. All of your above rules apply. And you can be killed by the opposite faction as your TEF.
In other words it is actually possible to get a TEF that would allow you to be killed in PvP by an Overt member of your own faction.

Are you sure about that, Zarlor?
In my experience, the only way to heal someone that is overt or has a TEF is to be of the same faction as that player (either overt or covert). If you do perform the healing on an overt member of your faction or someone that is covert and has a TEF, you'll get your own TEF.
However, if you try to heal someone that is overt and not of your faction (either being of the opposite faction or either faction if you're neutral), you get an error message. Same goes if that person has a TEF and is not of your faction.
That's what I've seen in the past, anyway.
Yeah, you can get a TEF against your own side.. sometimes you get the "unwise" message.. sometimes the heal goes through, and you can get friendly fire.
Nobody seems to know why this is. In beta there ws wackyness with peopel that had faction pointms in both sides.. but we are seeing friendly fire healing tefs on people without faction on both sides.
I'm sure we can assume this isn't intended.

Yeah, what T said. It's happening.I don't think it's intended.
It was the #5 issue from this last vote, though. Our current response to the issue is that it has been sebt on to the PvP folks who will have to get back to us on this. No response from them yet, though.
Wow .. thank you all for the quick response!!
So .. the rules should be (the way it works now):
As a covert Imperial:
- I can heal/buff/rez/trade withANY non-TEF/non-overt person and I'm okay and don't get a TEF.
- I can heal/buff/rez/trade with any overt Imperial and I would get a TEF.
- I can't heal/buff/rez/trade with overt Rebels at all.
- I can heal/buff/rez/trade with any covert-TEF Imperial and I would get a TEF.
- I can't heal/buff/rez/trade with covert-TEF Rebels at all. (With some buggy exceptions in which case I'd get a Rebel TEF)
- If I have a TEF I can't heal/buff/rez/trade with any rebels, and I can be killed by any overt rebel.
That bug where you become a viable target for your own faction is just weird ... but could be entertaining in the right setting ![]()
Thanks everyone!!
oh! and one more question ...
I lose a TEF when I clone, but not when I get revived?
