Thread: Combat Balance and Buffs. I don't know where else to post this. Is there a general topic forum?

Ok in this weeks 19 questions TH said that Doctor Buffs are going to be brought down:

"The only details available at this point are that we are going to look at all the numbers. The types of things that will change is that multi-thousand point HAM buffs will not be available."

So this leads to my question:

If buffs are going to be brought down, will certain uber places like the corvette, and the Deathwatch Bunker have the npc's hams scaled down too? I mean, those quests are almost impossible now. If they take down the buffs, how the heck are we expected to do these quests?

I have faith that the devs have thought about this, but I would just like to see them say it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for making the game harder, and bringing back a reason to group.

thanks

Yes, one of the things I am concerned about the CB as well. I hope they let us do plenty of testing and listen to our feedback before they push it live. Despite my occasional irate post I love this game, very few games can hold my interest for 9 months, but given recent experience in the latest patches,I am afraid this balance could kill my love for the game if it is done poorly and we are ignored.

Not necessarily

Buff values will be tweaked, yes

but so will the entire HAM system in general

When the combat revamp makes it to TC, we will have a better understanding of how buffs will be impacted.

I am actually less worried about the buff system than the other aspects of the combat balance. I understand that something needs to be done with the buffs and can accept that. I'm looking forward to see what they do on test. I am just nervous about the whole thing in general due to the past few patches and what we are seeing on TC2 with the Jedi. Yes, I understand it is still in testing, but accept for bugs, the core of the patches do not often get changed due to responses by the testers, i.e. stat migration. Much of my confidence will be restored if they delay patch 9 to make it more playable, or when it goes live it turns out to be a much better system than we are seeing now. I don't know, I just have been losing faith lately with what has been pushed to live. I do love the game and I hope my faith and confidence can be restored with the next few patches, but we're approaching make or break time for me, and I think for a lot of other players.

Sorry, this is unusually bitter sounding from me. Guess things got to me today.

I am not 100% sure if I have this right, but this is way I understand so far.

Way back when (Nov, Dec 2003) when Dev did that CH/PvE nurf thingy where they went over every mob's table and tweaked them, they deliberately broke them since they planned to fix it by doing the combat balance by Jan/Feb.

That didn't happen, and with introduction of more armor/buff/food/etc, PvE for broken more and more. Anyone, even the newbie of newbiw who just started their account yesterday can get full buff, wear composit armor someone gave them androck the Dantooine Quenker mission.Dev knew this and told us they know this but they kept saying everything will be okay once combat balance is done.

Now during that time they introduced lot of content to distract the players from broken combat by releasing geo cave, corvette and death bunker. But to get us to spend time there, they put in coupla good loots, and to prevent these new loot from being farmed, the mobs that are populating these content, and ONLY these mobs, are balanced against CURRENT player combat balance.

Now once the real combat balance hits many many moons from now, MOST of mobs in PvE will stay same including enraged rancor, krayt, night sisters and all the ones that you see running around in dantooine, deathomir, endor, etc. But fighting them will be like fighting super-droids in corvette/bunker.

Ofcourse once real combat balance hits, these exceptional mobs (those currently populating geo cave, corvette, bunker) will be scaled down to match.

So just think. You know how dumb it would be to go into geo cave, corvette(to actually do it the right way and not just run thru) or Death bunker without Doctor AND CM? after combat balance any of advanced planet will be like that, and geo cave, corvette and death bunker would be slightly harder than the advanced city, except they would be much easier than they are now.

At least thats how I understand the upcoming change.

It seems like the casual gamers like myself who play solo and are unguilded are gonna get screwed. It appears they are trying to get it back to the way the game used to be, large hunting groups to do anything (which is fine but I just wish they would say this). When you are unguilded and only play for maybe a few hours a day it is rather difficult to find somebody to go to the DWB with you or the geno caves.

I think you're right.. I dunno about all of you but I don't think i like what im hearing about this rebalancing.. It's gonna make everything a lot more unfun i think for most people. I'm just about sick of nerfs. Hm.. some good new online games coming out soon..
