I think this game would be better off if they took the buff system totally out of the game during the Combat Revamp and leave armor relativley the way it is. Lower the encumbrence on armor or make it so food and spice can have it be put on. The buffs make it possible for a Heavy Swordsman like myself to solo a Krayt. I know I've done it. 20 minute fight. But that's another story. I dunno. Maybe I'm mucho nutso (Thanks Mucho [guildie]).

Or you could take the armor out and leave the buffs and lets see you solo a krayt

The problem isn't specifically buffs or specifically armour, either by themselves isn't enough to give you god mode, the problem comes when you combine the two.

A simple reduction in the efficiency of both systems, coupled with fixing the goddamned NPC AI so that things actually do damage, would more than solve half the reasons that the game is currently far too easy by and large.

If you took out buffs then why would people be a master doc, the amount i use res kits, poison and diseases cure kits would not be enough to take you all those skill points. I may aswell drop down to medic to be able to cure the damage and wounds caused.

If they removed buffs rez kits would be the big business again like it was B.B (before buffs) i remember the krayt hunts then half the group where dead most of the time raising damage on the npc would be a BAAAAAAD idea think about the new peeps in the game with no buffs or armor but raising the damage and ham on Krayts and Night siters and stuff like that would be cool so we had to use a 20 man group to own it again wouldnt it be cool if the krayt had 1mill ham and did 3 times the damage they would be the feared creachures they once where

I personally think taking out buffs altogether would be a BAD idea. Some people I know almost require buffs because of the lag they get. They will be down to 1/4 health, clear their command window of specials, and hit a stim....only after their dead would it react, hence doing nothing. Buffs are vital to the game, but definately for making the hard stuff actually HARD (an SBD shouldn't be more of a pain than a krayt....)

Yes, I read your message (heard you out). And YES I do think you are nuts. I don't mean any offense by that but just think about it for a second. Buffs are an important element to doctors and killing buffs would certainly be very hard on the doctors and the players as well.

We have been discussing this at length in the Doc forum and I think it is safe to say that we agree there is a problem. But most of us think the problem is the way buffs and armor combine. In that, the buff takes away the negative effects of armor. And combined with armor that reduces damage to next to nothing, just makes a player almost immune from danger in the game. (of course they need some mind buffs or brandy as well).

My suggested fix is to change the encumb formula on armor so it is a percent of the total size of the HAM bar (not just the main ones but all 6 stats). So that people without buffs can put armor on, and people with buffs and armor on get a larger encumb rating. This would make it possible to go with just armor, with just buffs, or with both. Each choice by the player having value.

Just think how messed up the armor system is when almost no one in the game can even put armor on without a buff. Armor should be able to be worn without the necessity of a buff, but it should also still have negative effects even when combined with a buff. So the answer is to make the negative effect of armor more SCALABLE. Changing the buff is a simple solution that will just piss everyone off and not really be a great way at balancing a truely fun to play gaming system where players have lots of viable options.

so yep, you must be nuts. Please look for a more robust solution that helps gameplay and all classes. I hope you took the time to hear me out as well. I do thank you however for making a effort to think about this problem. The Docs would like to see things better as well.

In my oppinion this whole profession thing is crap in the first place. It makes a whole lot of sense to have a master swordsman have the same ammount of HP as a novice brawler. I'm sorry, but this game has some weak-ass mechanics in some areas.

- As I see it, Sony has until July 31st 2004 to pull content, balance and most importantly "fun" out of a hat and into the game for me. I guess I can list "buying a non-refundable year's subscription" down as one of the dumbest decisions made in my life. Congradulations SoE, you took 200 bucks from me. -

Well, hmmm, that is a radical thought, but I don't think you are nuts..

Some days I have wished the same thing, but for only the selfish reason of wishing I was more needed.

BUT.. it'll never happen..
