I remember when I started in November of last year....hunting on dantooine....joining a 12 person hunting group....and all of us searching high and wide for a doc for their rez ability.

Remember when Doc's were wanted for more than just their buffs?

I remember when players who took Doctor took it to support their groups, notjust be able to self buff.

I don't know about you guys, but I've been doctor for...probably a month now. I sell buff sets as a living, so good money. The ability to heal myself well and self-buff is also a perk. Main reason i picked it up though is to be able to treat other's diseases, fire, etc whenever im hunting with them. I've been on multiple hunts where I don't get any combat xp, but rather just make sure everyone stays alive, so there are still a few of us out there that do it not just for buffing .

I buff for money maybe one a week, at most. Other times, I'm trying desparately to find a group to go out hunting with, but usually it's the groups that aren't looking for me.

Yes, I love grouping and hunting the best..

The best night I had was before I was able to buff.. we were hunting NS on Dath unbuffed, but with armor.. That was tons of fun and quite the challenge as well..

When I am exhausted in rl from having to make quick decisions, healing the group, and keeping everyone alive, I know I've had a great time.

I have not been playing the game nearly as long as most "vets", but I've been a master doc since about the end of Jan '04, and have stayed one since. It's sad these days to see so-called "master docs" buffing in coronet, but when asked to heal wounds they "don't have the packs." Now, I know that a people do run out of packs (I've found myself in a bind without having a health wound pack), but it seems that docs these days carry around ONLY buff packs, and "maybe" a rez pack, and thats it. My inventory and backpack are nearly full (plus 3 droids with storage) because I have woundpacks, buff packs, crates of meds, dizzy/intimidate state heals, poison cure, disease cure, rez pack, ranged stims, Stim E's, poison C's, area poison C's, diseases, area heals, and even fire blankets.

I consider myself a "true" master doctor, because I don't limit myself to only the aspect that brings in the most money. I don't charge for healing wounds, I rez people when they ask (assuming it's not across the galaxy without cause), and try to be as helpful as I can to people who need tending to, or new docs/medics/CMs looking for advice.

I do hold a buffline in coronet when I want some cash, but I'm no slave to it. I'mserving my customers, and i wish that all docs would try to "know their role" and tend their customers, not their wallets.

"Know thier role" my ass. If I can give someone something that would enable them to make over 100-200k an HOUR, then I expect them to VALUE it and pay a price I set for such an item. When you go to the real life doctor, they dont expect you to get treated for free. You wait in the waiting room and make a copayment before you can even see the doctor, unless you have a serious wound that needs ER treatment, then they patch you up best they can and then take all your money. The problem with the game is people can just run away without paying after a serious wound treatment and not have to worry about lawsuits.

I respect that. But, don't believe that's how real life doctors are. I am knee deep in debt to doctors who charge an arm and a leg for their services. Medical help is not cheap. not by any means. Likewise, there's no reason in the game to think you're around just for service, though certainly helping others is an element of the proffession. We also need money to help pay for resources. It's not cheap being a doc that's for sure...

Man I miss those days. Only reason my main char is doctor/CM was for purely being a support character. I like being the healer out on the field. Only problem is that now people are too good. With buffs and armor very little even damages the group anymore let alone kills us

Makes me feel un-needed as a healer.

I'm merely saying docs were put in the game to help, but yes, at a decent profit. The devs didn't see buffs getting as high as they are, nor as popular (which is why they are unfortunately saying that multiple-k buffs will no longer happen). I try not to compare SWG to real life too much, except that my RL cuts into SWG playing time (THE NERVE!). Buffs are the way docs make money, but people are assuming that's ALL they do, and some docs are BUILDING that rep that all they are good for is sitting in theed/coronet advertising, making lines, and buffing for cash.

I buff in coronet, I make money, but I also go on group hunts, pvp occasionally, heal those in cantinas (area stims rock), and try to help everyone I can. I don't WANT to be the "treat you and take all your money" RL doc, I want to help people, make my share of the profit, and continue doing that. I just don't like seeing so-called "master" docs that can't even heal wounds or cure a person's disease. Is it really that much trouble to try and be more helpful instead of just being the galaxy's buff bot?

I remember when I would get ten tells a night asking me to join a PvP group to help off set the CM.....Oh wait, thats almost every night.

Doc's still do way more than just sit around buffing. They just are not as visible.

Remember when luke faught vader on the deathstar, and 5 other dark jedi loaded in and ganked him.

Or how bought that time when yoda was walking around coruscant and a bh and his 10 tk/fencer friends ganked him and he lost ranking xp and had to give of the councel leadership so it was only Windu. Oh wait that never freaking happened. Cause you know when you saw luke in the movies he never ran around withouth 5 of his friends.

Food for thought
