I have a few problems, that I know have probably been discussed here before. All of them might kill the Doc profession as we know it, and since Eclipse has so few already (compared to other servers), we should be concerned.

One, is the new Combat publish. I was under the impression that if you were "on leave" you could heal/buff anybody. If you were Combatant, you could only heal/buff the same faction, and if you were Special Forces, you could only heal, but not buff, other Special Forces players. Tonight, I find out that's not the case......if I want to buff anybody set as Combatant, I have to be Combatant as well. This strictly limits my ability to buff people who ask for it, or heal in med centers, where people expect docs. If the city is Imp controlled (as most are right now), how do Rebel players get heals/buffs?

Ok, so I set up a buff bot, and advertise a Rebel doc........well, gee, since Sony is apparently removing the repeating macro, I can't advertise, nor can I set up a buff bot........

And, with the whole Combatant thing, I can't guarantee that I'll be able to be at a Starport, or even near a major city, if it's under Imp control. I mean, I don't mind dying TOO much, but I think this publish just makes things too hard, especially for the doc profession. Many of us are either in non-faction-aligned guilds, or have friends who are of the opposite faction. This publish means that it's almost impossible to help our friends out, if they're not under strict guidelines.

Maybe I'm just ranting due to the change, after 8 months of doc, I've gotten used to things.

Which brings me to another point.........

I logged on late last night/early morning, and found out the new pub had happened. I wasn't sure what status I had to be to buff, so I asked three seperate docs, two on Dant, one at Cnet. Two didn't even bother to respond, the third said, and I quote "Go read the forums, n00b. Stupid beginners". Um, excuse me.........this is a new pub, I have a job, and a family, so I can't read every single post about every change that happens, sometimes I have to ask for help. Again, I've been playing this game for over a year, been a doc for 8 months, I'd like to think that I've progressed beyond "n00b" status..........and you can bet your butt I'll answer a question for somebody if they ask. I'll keep the name of the moron in question to myself, I pretty much set him straight in-game. We don't need that kind of antagonism, though, and I found it highly insulting, considering that I'm Master Fencer as well, formerly Master Rifles, TKM, Scout, and CH......if this bonehead had bothered to examine me, he'd have found that out. Instead, I examine him, and he's.........um............Master Medic, Master Doc, 5 badges..........so, who's a n00b here?

Ok, rant over......been up all night, just generally grumpy. Snowed another 8 inches here, I have a huge driveway to shovel. And no beer in the house, until I shovel my way out.

I shoveled fast, believe me. No beer until 9am here, 10am at most shops. Liquor laws.........gotta hate 'em.

I'm reserving more serious judgement on the new system, until I feel it out more. Right now, it seems that Doc and Medic have effectively been stifled, since, unlike any combat profession, you can't count on a place to actually make XP. Nerf the repeating macro, sure, or do the combat upgrade. Doing both will pretty much kill us, I think.

Buffing has not changed. You can buff anybody no matter your faction or theirs. All other healing is limited to your faction only. That means if your on leave you can only heal other neutrals. If your Rebel, you can only heal other combatant rebels and neutrals. If your Special Forces Rebel you can heal any other Rebel and neutrals.

As for starports, NPCs dont spawn inside the starport, so the only risk you would have would be if someone got an NPC to follow them inside.

That's not what I'm seeing........after I went Combatant, I was able to buff everybody, but only On Leave when I wasOn Leave as well. Otherwise, if I tried to buff an on-leave imp, I got a message telling me to either go combatant, or pass him up.

And yes, NPC's do spawn in SP, but only Tat, apparently, but that will change, I think. When Imps take over Theed, for example, I would expect to see stormies in the SP, and vice-versa.

The way the devs state it, the only way to buff everybody, regardless of faction, is to go neutral, which rather eliminates some of the group combat aspect, I'd think. As pf this morning, it seems some of what they're saying changed, I buffed a Combatant imp just 10 minutes ago.

I don't think this will kill anything. It only reinforces the fact that now you must pick a side.

IMO thats a welcome change. *IF* you wanna heal everyone go neutral or PVP Enabled.

Otherwise there isn't much point to get frustrated. I personally love the changes. Lastnight I was buffing up my guild in C-net when an imperial strike force rolled up. We were all PVP Enabled, and yeah that was just the most fun ever!. No stupid TEFers trying to gank us.

Was way more fun and 100% less frustrating.

That's not at all how they state it. The devs stated it exactly the same way Agent did, and that is the way it's working. Anyone can buff anyone, regardless of faction.

I ran a toon on Shadowfire for nearly six months and ran him up to Rebel Colonel and all that. When I switched to Eclipse I decided to stay out of the GCW and remain neutral as I believe Doctor's should be non-combatants...(until I put on my Rifleman hat that is)...

As such I'm just LOVING the new patch as it means I will be able to perform many heals while those who have chosen a side may limited....

That means that more money will flow to me...

That means that my plans to depose the Emperor and take his throne will be accelerated by at least two years....

That means my plans for galaxy wide domination can continue...

Heh, heh, heh heh, heh...

Heh.

Or it could mean that I just have to learn the limitations of the new system.

Regardless I usually try to let those grinding medics and doctors handle the heals anyway so not sure if it'll effect me too much. We'll see....

I'm not saying it's awful, the other changes are excellent. No more TEF ganking, no more getting capped at Nyms, etc etc. Even the new looting system has me in a tizzy, and I generally play solo these days. Lots of good changes for sure.

I did spend some time buffing, and it wasn't a big deal. Actually, it was nice to be able to buff anyone, regardless of status. Note, the only reason this concerns me, is that after a few months of buffing, I've gotten to know quite a few "regulars" of both factions. It would suck if I wasn't able to buff a friend who happened to be Imp. I'm not a roleplayer, though.......if I were, it would be a different story.

I might go neutral, anyway, have to check with my guild first, to make sure that's ok with them. I'm sure it won't be an issue.
