Thread: The Master Doctor's PvP template of choice is...

Greets,

I was glad to see all the great response to my last string about what you compliment your Master Doc skills with. I was personally surprised at how my people went the non-combat route and had complimentary careers that were in other areas of engineering or the like of.

That being said, I find myself questioning my combat choice. I am about halfway up pitoleer and find I want to participate more in PvP. I think pistoleer seems quite effective for docs in support roles for PvE but I don't know about PvP.

For those of you master docs that work hard for your guilds, or friends and are often PvP'ing I have to ask: what works for you and why?

In that last thread I mentioned, I'd say of the general combat types, TKA was the most popular by a longshot. However, I would guess TKA (as strong as it is) would not be the first choice of PvP master docs.

What did you choose? Why? Am I being too hard on pistoleer? Is distance (rifleman) the way to go?

The pro's of pistoleer seem to be the specials use action which is easily healable. The range is decent, and can handle some close support situations but it seems quite slow and innefective on most human opponents.

Your two cents would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I'm pistoleer/doc and I find myself pretty useless in PvP. Just can't make enough damage as everyone is buffed anyway. Right now I think that rifleman is the way to go, but I'm personally waiting for the combat revamp to make up my mind whether I want to switch or not... That being said, if you are often in large groups you can't use specials anyway as you keep having to heal, cure and rez.

I would never play a melee class with doc for PvP, it's just useless as you can't be in melee and do your doc job at the same time.

Right now i'm Fencer and that seems to be a decent pvp class in combo with doc. The fencers defense stats make a doc incredibly hard to take down or hit, especially if you use the dodge food combined with COB. The only downside i've found so far is fencers don't deal out a ton of dmg when compared to a tk or rifleman. So if your fighting 1 on 1 (rarely ever the case i know) the fights drag out a little longer than tk or rifleman docs.

I think all inallfencer/doc works in pvp in ways like being able to run into a fight, and drag your incapped or db'd buddies off while not being taken down yourself because of your defenses. Oh, also fencers have really nice dizzy and blind attacks that come in really handy in pvp too when fighting against groups of brawlers.

I know the Pikeman prof gets alot of crap for being the 'worst' brawler class, but i jus saw a master pikeman fight and dang...they look cool lol. So i think thats what i'll be doing next, pike/doc combo. I'll be sure to post and let you guys know how it goes

Not Master Doc(0/3/4/0) but am Master Rifleman.

Its fun, but unless you're planning to minimize all your HA stats and put it into mind, you're perma-gimped.

Ok, I'm curious now. How do you melee types fill in your role in PvP? I know that for one would be unable to use my melee profession at all during most of the raids, or it would be at the cost of not healing/curing or rezzing.

Forget about doc/pistoleer. forget forget forget. It is not a good combo profession to go with doctor.

Been there done that, whored it out like nobody else could. It ain't worth it. If you think your halfway decent with this combo, it's because you don't know any better. Trust me docs, stay the hell away from pistoleer. Take, tka, fencer, swordsmen, rifles, carbines, PIKEMAN!! even... stay the hell away from pistols.

I've tried:

CH/Doc - Talk about defenseless

Pistoleer/Doc - KD was nice but only goodto get away

Heavy Sword/Doc - Nice, but slow, duties are split hard to be a turret buster when you are the rezzer too. But all in all fun.

My only thing about rifleman is that mindshot sucks your mindpool like a kid with an automatic Pez dispenser. As a doc that one stat is SO important to you.

Now I'm coming back to being a Doc after a break (god help us all :smileyvery-happy so I'm giving carbineer / Doc a try. Yes still not a lot of damage in comparison to heavy sword, but the counterattacks and state attacks seem nice. Plus the specials are action based not mind.

I'll let you know how it goes but so far thta's my choice.

Knighthawk, tell me how you really feel. lol

I'm doing pistoleer because I'm halfway there. That's all. I don't 'love' it. I know my new skills are not even noticeable. It's quite sad really but what can I do?

As a master doc who gets his own resources, and does solo a lot, I can't see melee working for me. Not to be rude, but I hate stuff running away from me. And pistol helps protect my melon in the sense that specials don't use mind and I'm harder to hit in the head.

As far as PvP, like the person posted above, how do you melee types deal with PvP?

Honestly in PvE I rarely had to run after any prey when I was resource hunting, plus with the massive damage that Heavy sword did combats were considerably shorter than when I was a ranged person.

Now humanoid targets are a totally different thing....

*sigh* "why do they always run...?"

Though I enjoyed HS immensly hindsight for PvP I would have taken fencer.
