Thread: Concern about Buff balancing

It wasstated that buffs may be affected in publish 8, in the publish preview. Is anyone else concerned that they will (i hate using the word "nerf") reduce buffs as to try to "balance" combat? Buffing is probably the most important role of doctors, and I do more buffing than healing, state heals, and poison/disease heals combined. To change the buff range from where its at now (which is VERY NICE right now, thanks SOOO much for taking randomness out of buffs), means making the profession's primary role reduced, if not practially useless. The effort it takes now to gather the materials necessary to create the buffs that all the people crave is only worth it because the average buff is 2k at about 800 power. If the enhance amout is dropped too much, the effort to making the buff packs will not be worth the end result, meaning that doc's won't bother making buffs, and will probably drop the profession for something else.

Ok, as it stands now, the HAM system is currently being reworked, so that only health and action are targetable, and mind is just used for tasks. That would be great, but with buffs like they are right now, I admit PvP would be quite fustrating. Only the people that could do the most damage (aka commandos) could get through armor, and hit the health and action enough so that player could get incapped. This is because in the current system, 95% of the time, mind is the pool that incaps players because health and action regen stats can be buffed so high as to auto-heal most damage done by weaker professions (ie Carbineer).

I'd like to hear some feedback as to the concerns of the Doctors on this issue, and any other issues regarding this HAM revamp.

If they introduced a nerf creature (animal used by Corellians as meat animal, Leia called Han a "Nerfherder" in ESB) and it was too strong, would they nerf the nerf?

Well im not a Doc, just a customer buying buffs. If they capped buffs at..say 1000 (on a buff made of top resources) i'd still pay normal full price for that buff. Customers will always pay lots for top stats. If 1000 is the top then 1000 is the top.

In removing the randomness of buffs they have already removed easily an effective 800-1000 that was being added to everyone's stats. Pre-Change, I could get buffs of 2800-3100 without great difficulty. Now, I am quite pleased to recieve 1900-2100.

I hope they will let this ride, and see how the other plan combat changes effect things before altering the buff system again.

Did you ever get 2800 to all 6 stats on a normal basis? Or a mix of 2800 and 3100s with the hated 1000-1300?

moot point all 6 at that range is possible but you can bet you'd do a poor soul for 4 sub 2k ones any one who says otherwise knows the game mechanics more than the should do

If they nerf buffs for a combat fix it wont matter will it, everything will get regraded if avg PVE was upped then im sure the buffs maybe realigned, it depends on the devs model for the combat revamp. Why do you always think the buffs will be going down? perish the thought they might even increase! if they up the size of a Krayt by 100k to 550k then whats the diff

I cudnt care if the buffs got brought down to 1k you are still doubling and more most peoples stats,as long as chef foods are also brought down too in line then we have nothing to fear.

There is no word on how or if buffs will be effected (The devs are reserving the right to change them, just some advanced warning).

Z and I have been campaigning to but mind healing back on stims (because all healing would use the mind special pool, not mind itself, making mind healing possible). It is our hope that this makes it in, it will clear up a lot of problems with "unhealable" combat damage.

The new timeframe on the combat changes aren't clear yet. It is possible it'll be on TC more then 1 month, as numbers get shifted around.

Well, if they reserve the right to change my primary function as a doctor, then I reserve the right to cancel my subscription...

Honestly, the Devs have a difficult balancing act to do here. On one hand they have this grand plan of combat rebalance, and on the other, thousands of players that will cancel their accounts if the combat system is changed too much. My hope is the Devs will keep the dialog open, communicate with the paying players, and come to some kind of compromise, as we are paying for this game after all. I would hate to see all these jobs lost just because the Devs changed something without the player base's consent, and everybody leaves.

Honestly, you are being a bit melodramatic.

The devs aren't gonna chop 2 k off of the current buffs or anything.

The devs aren't going to do anything drastic to anyone, and for the record, players will vote (a majority of them) for a broken system they know, over a good system they don't, every single time... and to make it worse, players will vote for a system tthat gives them too much power, over one that will be fair (not an underpowerd one, but a fair one) roughly 60% of the time.

This is coming from a guy who is quitting because he doesn't like the direction the game is taking too btw. So, if I can give them the benefit of the doubt on this, I hope you can too.

My personal feelings is they will be reduced in effectiveness (in other words nerfed). I don't like the idea because it allows me to play on my terms as well as the people I buff. However anything that allows me to solo rancors without armor or walk into the Dolok Villiage on Endor by myself and allow myself to be surrounded by about 20 8-10K HAM mobs walk out alive while their corpses litter the floor. . . . well draw your own conclusions.

The good news is at the rate the devs do things around here it'll be 3 years before they get around to implementing it.

Well, even I must admit that Buffs right now are too strong. It basically means you will win if you are buffed, and if you aren't, you will lose.

My favorite idea to fix the buff system, is to have hard caps on buff amounts based on species. Obviously you could buff a wookie more than you could a human, making them more dangerous in combat, as it should be ^_^. Trando's should get higher regen rate buffs, as they are lizards and should regen faster than other species. Humans should be lower, but balanced stats. This would make a clear difference between the species, other than how many FP it takes to buy an AT-ST.

Sure buffs are the win or lose switch. Except for when it's Comp Armor, or Krayt t-21's, or who's got the closest CM, or well you get the idea.

At least buffs are readily available.

buffs are kinda strong right now, and honestly i wouldnt really mind to much if they were cut down by say a third or so. But my only hope is if this happens the Devs will relax on the stuff to make buff packs bycutting it by the same amount. ( IE. 19 avian meat instead of 28 )
