Thread: No Chance for Recessitation
What the? My wife and I both play this game. I was a little over 1000m away from her at a player city on Corellia. Working on some stuff in my house. She sends me a tell saying a bunch of Grande wrixes have killed her and to come revive her to save her from decay. Knowing that I can't take on a single grand wrix unbuffed let alone multiples I buff real quick then head out to save her. All in told less than 5 minutes at the mostfrom time of her tell, to time I get to her using a mount for travel. I manage to be able to use drag incap on her to pull her to safety before I try a revive. Hit the revive and I get the player has been dead to long message. So my question is.
Have they lowered the timer on revives, and I missed it? I have been 3 times that distance away before, without the use of a mount and still managed to get to someone and revive them. This is the second time in a week that someone has died and I can't get to them fast enough. Both are the only times I have had to go save someone specifically. Anybody else having problems with this or noticed this at all?
I gotta agree. Even if there IS a limit, 5 minutes just seems way too low, especiallu with Death & Decay in the game now. Besides, isn't it enough punishment if someone wants to sit as a corpse waiting for however long it takes for a Doc to get out to them, not to mention the time being taken from the Doc to get out there to begin with, that a timer on this is kind of useless? Just my take.
At any rate it was in the Top 5 I just sent in this month, and a response is in the works. I know they are looking at this, though, and I have entered into a dialog about it. So hopefully we'll get an answer in the not too distant future.
I don't mean to suggest taht there should not be some level of consideration given to immersion. But all of game deisgn is built around that balance that must of necessity exist between immersive "reality" and gameplay. If we wanted to talk about strict immersive reality we wouldn't have "cloning" at all, at least not with all of our skills, and so forth and so on. It's especially true when we are talking about a world that in it's own reality is nothing like ours and does not follow the laws of physics or reality that exist here on godd old earth in the present day.
If we are willing to believe in a time and place where things like light sabres, hyper-drives and "the force" exist, than why would it not be possible to revive someone who has been dead more than 5 minutes? Is it really that much of a stretchin that framework?
Hey all,
First time to the doc forums. Thinking of coming this way in game so I'm seeing what is going on.
Anyway, I think the idea the RL doc was trying to make is while it seems short, five minutes in the grand scheme of things isn't bad. It allows some leeway in reviving a killed player, while not being exploited. However, It will not stop the nerf criers, "Just yesterday I was able to revive a friend when he died. Today I couldn't.... What?... Oh, well I was farther away yesterday. Today I only had to jump two planets and run 5k into the middle of the planet he died on...but I had to go farther yesterday and it worked. I wish SOE would stop nerfing my profession!"
This is an exaggeration and is not meant to offend anyone in this forum. Just remember, as they tweak the game to make it more playable by everyone they will have to make changes that keep players from doing stuff they have done in the past. Will it make the game unplayable? Well, for those few that need to steer around the spirit of the game and "exploit" the few holes in the programming, it will.
Just an outside observer tossing in his $0.02. ![]()
Well, part of the problem here is that we've never ben able to get any official response on this. It wasn;t in a patch note anywhere and there sure never said anything to me about to pass along to all of you, or you would have heard about it long before the last Publish.
Then againn who says Death is Death? It could be similar to a coma or simply massive trauma. From a real world medical perspective there is always consideration for the "golden hour" so to speak. Of course in this case I don't see resuscitation as something that is particularly exploitable. There are many gameply reasons why, if this is supposed to be in, that the timer should likely be increased (assuming it even is 5 minutes, buecase I have seen a LOT of reports to the contrary). Docs don;t tend to be the richest profession around and a 5 minute timer on Res in some cases makes it just enough for a Doc to risk getting out to someone who will pay them to Res, only to find out when they get there that they missed that window and don't get paid. The patient has no clue there is a timer most of the time and are not told when that timer expires. The only message comes when the Doc attempts Resuscitation.
"Death" in game terms is normally meant to hold a penalty. Doctors are a partial counter to that penalty, but there is a replacement sting with them. That could be waiting for a Doc to get to you and the sting of paying them for the service (it's not like we otherwise have ambulance service, after all.) All of htat compared to 1% (or 5% if you forgot to insure) might be worth it to some players, and if it is why not give us the opportunity to use that instead of penalizing us and the patient with taking the time to get somewhere only to find out we can;t even use the skill either because of bugs with the timer or because we just never knew about this timer to begin with (because we have never been told about it.)
So that's kind of where it stands at the moment. I will say thatthe Devs are looking into it for us, at least.
