Thread: I have proof now!
Proof at last
I apologize in advance for any problems with the clicky, this was the first I've ever attempted

However.....Just because you can find a "common" ground a SWG with other games....doesn't mean it wasn't there to begin with. This game was unique because it didn't show those other classes you speak of. But the same style, design, and Idea's have been there sense day 1.And just because SOE is using other Terms from other games doesn't mean this is turning into EQ or something crazy....it simply means that SOE had to up a complicated system on the same level other games do......so that morons can understand what SOE is attempting to do.But thats just my opinion.....Another one I have is "It won't be as bad as your newly modified skill triangle"
You seem to be so sure that SOE isn't copying, but who made EQ? I think it was....SOE. This isn't just some coincidences. Please. You'd have to have some major blinders on to not see the blinding similarities. I'm very sure of one thing. The dev's over at EQ dept are now doing double duty here at SWG.

Cosmosa you're absolutely right. We already have EQ I wanted SWG ... but after the revamp will there even be a real SWG???
I think so....just because the concepts of EQ will be more visible in the CU doesn't mean much. I mean get on TestCenter when they push it....and try it out before making assumptions. EQ, DAoC, all those games are already "in concept" within SWG...it's just going to be more noticable now.

First of all, LOL at the graphic. Thanks, I needed that. It was great!!!
I know what you're saying MyT. A doc was a doc, and similar to a cleric from launch. Agreed!
Don't you find it peculiar that nearly all RPGs, though, have roughly the same archetypes (classes) though? I can't believe that we are still stuck in the same 4 base class model since Dungeons and Dragons. The Healer. The Tank. The Ranged Attacker. And the Sneaky Roguish type. Heck, we made the classic "thief" classSMUGGLERS for crying out loud!!! It's just a different can of paint!
SWG has added some great stuff. I enjoy it. I'd think someone would break out of the stifled paradigm, though, and come up with something new.
Anyway...

As an OO programmer who works on several enterprise systems at a time, allow me to jump in here.
Of course it makes sense for a company like SOE to use the same engine. We've seen it before with the Doom gaming engine, but I don't recall anyone complaining that Duke Nukem was too much like Doom. If you have a development team working on two different engines, the changes of bugs leaking through and fixes being slow are far greater than when you only have one engine to support.
I do the same thing here. My core libraries are used by 12 different applications. When a bug is found, it's fixed in all 12 at the same time. That saves quite a bit of time, and allows the team here to work on more ehancements/new applications. It also allows us to have a much stronger knowledge of the core libraries. The alternatives are 1) all devs have some knowledge of the libraries as a whole, or 2) smaller groups of devs specialize on certain parts of the libraries.
The game engine isn't what makes SWG what it is. Rather, it's the skins, and in greater part, the community.

The concept works....If it works why fix it. Why start from scratch if you have a system that has worked for YEARS. The basic concept for every game is tailored on some game that came before it. It's really nothing new. It's how the developers visually show the classes that make them different. And it's funny because until I say the chart above I never even noticed. Then I started thinking about it...and was like....hmm its already like that.
Nothing is changing per-say....I think it will still be SWG. Roles may change, but lets face it the current system doesn't work. It was a good idea to try something new "HAM"...but it doesn't work. And its seriously a waste of time to balance the system without changing stuff around.
Crafted Consumables are what makes Doctor different from the everyday "Fantasy" game....There is a lot that makes SWG different from that same game. But over the years.....we changed the game.....we made it how it is today. Doctors are not Crafters.....we are Combat Support Profession. If someone is gonna get hung on the fact that we will use "Magic" in the new system just because we don't have an item to use....thats just stupid. The item is "Magic" if you think about it.
Now I don't particularly care for "magic"....but I will get over it, because I'm a HEALER.

Lucky me, I never even considered installing everquest on my system! So, I could honestly care less whether or not this is a direct copy or even a variation of that combat system. The SWG system is broken. Even if they tried to fix the system within it's current state, many (not all) would be sniping at the developers anyways while screaming 'nerfers' at the top of their lungs whenever their character got touched. There was really no way around them upseting a section of the community here. All I know is the current crafting system is great according to many, whilst the combat system is trash.
