I don't know much about the buffing process, but I'm thinking about becoming a doctor just to perform buffs. Problem is, I want to keep master smuggler, so I couldn't master doctor. Would I be able to perform worthwhile buffs without mastering? I would not be selling these buffs, they would be for my mysterious other character

If you got to the top of all the trees but the crafting one, you could buy some good buff packs and use them and get some good ones.

Obviously not as good as a master, but not to far off. And add on the randomness of it, its worth it.

Mysterious other character you say?

You could obtain the ability to buff with a Master Surgeon. If you have other points available you would want to increase your med use as much as you can. You could also get a droid with a 110 medical module and some +25 wound treatment bio-engineered clothes to help out a little.

You would have to obtain lower buffs or Enhance D's that were experimented down to your med use. If you do the Crafting line, you could do this yourself if you are up to getting all the resources and spending the time.

So, you would not be able to lay full Master quality buffs on your alt, but if you know what to expect, that should work. You would probably only have problems if you were trying to sell buffs, since there is an certain demand and expectation for Master Doc buffs.

With skill mods you can overcome the master doctor +25 wound treatment bonus. thus effectively buffing as well as any master.

Well, with skill mods and Ds with experiment points put into ease of use, wihich will lower your power, which someone else will have to make for you. If you have a buddy that's a Master Doc and you provide the avian meat & gas (or just buy them), I'm sure they wouldn't mind doing a custom runfor you.

Too bad you can't slice enhance packs.

P.S. -- My char is same as yours but inverse -- Master Doctor, Smuggler 0040

Doubtful. Any master doc I know has the +25 wound treatment bonus as well, giving them an effective ability of +125 to wound treatment. Even with the skill mods, a 0/4/4/0 doctor would be at +100, making them 25% less effective than a master.

Plain and simple, a master doctor can buff 25%+ better than any other doctor out there.

Simply put, if you could get to 0/4/4/0 doctor, you could perform buffs that are roughly 65%-70% as good as a master doctor's.

The reason for that are two-fold.

First, at master doctor, you get a +25 bonus to wound treatment, which also applies to enhancements. This gives a master doctor a 25% better buff than someone that is 0/4/4/0.

Second, the best enhance packs have a med use that is high enough that they can only be used by a master doctor. In order to make them usable by a 0/4/4/0 doctor, you'd have to spend experimentation points to bring down the med use, which takes away from the experimentation points you could be spending on additional power. Hence, you'll be using enhancement packs that aren't quite as good.

So, in the end, your buffs will probably end up being about 65%-75% as good as a master doctor's. So, that means, if I average 2000 points with a particular pack (I am a master doctor), you'd average about 1350 with a similar pack (made from the same resources).
