Thread: Have I cocked it up, or am I jinxed? Hunting gone bad.

I reached Master Doc some days ago, plus Novice Architect as my main sideline.

To free up Skill Points I was faced with dropping either Brawler or Scout ... chose to completely drop Brawler (even Novice, for the 15 SP) as I still wanted to mask scent, & harvest (figured mask scent would stop me drawing agro to any group I was hunting with).

Problem is, last 2 Sharnaff hunts I've been on, have gone bad. Multiple spawns, even tho I'm certain (with one of them) that nobody was attacking the lair post spawn (least of all me - I attack nothing), mucho incaps & a few deaths all around.

Maybe Sharnaffs have been made harder (about time), maybe I just got unlucky, maybe some newbie did n't peace the lair quick enough ... but what is worrying me is whether maybe my dropping brawler & having precisely zero combat skills is actually causing this.

What do you reckon?

Btw, reason I'm wondering about being jinxed, is that my buidling got struck by lightening yesterday (eek), fortunately doing no worse that loosing me my internet connection for a few hours. Naturally, this happened mid hunt.

No combat skills + Hunting = Bad news!

Im not sure if its the mob agroing ya, but any member of a group that agros a mob is fair game, as long as they are close enough.

Maybe if you have go no combat skills, you should stick to crafting..

This happens all the time, just not all the time.

Most lairs will only pop out a few individuals. Some lairs will pop out individuals at a faster rate, and not stop. You wind up with many more opponents than you were prepared for.

As a solo player, I hit the lair and run. I rest and recover mind. I see how many critters popped out. If too many have shown up, I move on or figure out a new plan.

BTW, even a cheap breastplate and helm can save you grief and cut 50% kinetic. That's an amazingly good deal.

LDwater - could n't just craft all day, would bore the pants off me

I don't solo anything, just go out with groups - am nota brawler/doctor, but a pure support class doc. I tried brawler/medic - disaster as it severely cut down the time between my heals, even tho I was not using any specials etc, not good in a cave full of Squillies. Sitting just behind the front line of a group, I find I can keep everyone fighting, at least until their mind gives out

I only join the scrum (by choice at least, still get targetted from time to time) when I see someone coming to a mind incap, & try to draw fire from them, which usually results in me being incapped, along with (by then) everyone else

Glad to know that lair spawns vary, Vemagama ... I'd been after a few Sharnaff lairs without seeing such mega spawns as when I posted this, but today's hunts & spawns were fairly reasonable. One death, which was good as I got use Res for the first time tee hee.

Re that armour ... anyone know the best type for a doc - i.e. one with the lowest inpact on the mind pool, or is that all down to how the armoursmith experiments?

If you are fighting creatures, not npc's who might use weapons, then get a set of high kinetic ubese armor. Don't slice it, it will just fall apart quick.

I've got a set of 70% kinetic ubese. Every 100 pt hit turns into only 15 actual damage taken, so only 150pts of temp wounds even off a 1k hit from a creature.

The encumbrance isn't that bad for ubese.I recommend investing in some Breath of Heaven to offset the mind costs.
