Thread: Best Weaponskill for a Doctor?
Originally, I had decided to pursue a Doctor/Combat Medic build. However, the combat medic class seems to have a lot of kinks that will need to be ironed out concerning area heals, poisons, diseases, etc.
Thus, I've been considering taking a weapon skill to complement my doctor skill. What do you all think would suit a doctor more, tka or pistol? I guess my thinking with tka is if meditate further helps mind regen it might be worth taking that path as a doctor.
I appreciate any thoughts or possible alternative choices that anyone may have on this matter.
Thanks,
Muad'dib (Gorath)
Pistol. It lets you shoot from all distances and also it helps you outdefensively. Monsters don't do as much damage to you as if you had a carbine or rifle(they're supposed to be far away weapons). It lets you run around and heal anybody that needs it and keeps youdoing okay damage.
I'm still at a loss why anybody would pick combat medic.. Its easy to run around and heal people.. And if somebody dies, you can just res them.
Its kinda sad.. In groups I'd expect my more combat related friends to be better at fighting.. But since I can heal myself whenever I want.. I make a better tank than any of them do.
I have sucessfully had
carabine spec/doc
rifle spec/doc
polearm spec/doc
1 hand sword/doc
pistol IV/doc
no comabat at all doc
(none made it to master doctor in beta.. too busy messing around with different combos... most just barely got novice doc.. though some were on tier 3's)
They all worked fine.. but they all didn't play the same. Timing was very different, and the specials definitely changed how I played.
I was going the pistol route (have pistoleer already) but am beginning to not like it at all, as it puts a delay on your heals. When you go to heal there is a pause till your next available pistol shot (by available i mean no specials in the que, if you have specials in the que then you dont heal till after they go off) and then you heal rather then shoot.
What i have now been considering is creature handler for my offensive damage, that way i just "pet kill" at the begining of a fight and then can just heal heal heal with no delays. This way i can heal much faster and effectively but yet still contribute to the damage the group is doing.
Orion, " Master Doctor want to be" (2 boxes of doctor crafting to go, sigh)
im a master doc, with near master tka.....i really enjoy it
id suggest as another did above me here, any melee or pistol is a strong choice, but the other ranged weapons....they can get you into trouble if you had to run into a scrum and heal where you may take hits.
If you arent taking hits, well then it doesnt really matter what weapon skill you choose!
See the thing is, all we really do....anywhere, we have to do in very close proximity with the target, this makes you vulnerable. Keep that in mind, whatever choice you make.
I'm changing my tactics.. I'm going to be going Medic/Doc/Creature handler too.. It just makes sense. We can heal tons of damage easily.. we got access to all the best medicines to use on our pets as well. And ya.. it does make it faster healing in combat if you arn't actually involved in the combat, like shooting weapons. You getta heal faster.. and you can get some really good pets that can whoop almost anything you want. And all you gotta do is stand next to them and heal em.. just like I do with my other groupmates anyway.
I always wondered what the heak all those really high level meds were for like stim e's and advanced components because I can heal almost any player fully in 1 or 2 shots with a stim c. I'm thinking they were put in so if docs had pets.. they could heal them really well.
i am going doc/rifleman
the reason i chose this was mind damage. with master doc you can buff 6 stats 1.5k-2k+ each, but you can't buff mind. so if a pistol/carbine user comes after me i just need to keep some distance and kill thier mind. i will have around 3k health and action. even if they have buffs too, thier mind won't be greater 1.5k(not sure about mon cals). with a good rifle that is 3 shots, with a t21 that is 2, or even 1 shot. if they are healing others(or themselves) they are using mind.
in the end, my character is made to defeat other doctors/medics/CMs. even if i only get one hit in on them before i die, they still lose half thier mind, and it can't be healed.
Since creature handlers are being nerfed into uselessness..I will be changing my tactic back to using pistols. If i can be just as effective with a gun as with 1 pet rancor.. There isn't much reason to be a CH. Glad I didn't waste too much of my time working CH.. i feel sorry for all those master Ch's out there..
I have debated and debated where to go ... I finally made a decision this weekend.
I naturally made progress with the pistol along with scout skills to harvest organic resources and artisian survey to harvest inorganic resources - all for med crafting. However, now that I am a Master Doctor crafting very high end meds, have money can afford materials, own harvestors etc ...I sat down this last weekend and calculated what skill trees to sacrificein order to get distance healing and the "crafting" branchesof combat medic.
I have novice pistoleer and my server is still waiting for one weaponsmith to be successful with DX2 pistol creation... while we wait for the mysterious resources ...I'm using a FWG5 successfully.
However to get to where I want to be .. I'll have to give up all my scout and artisian skills. They got me here which was worth it, but with only 3 skill points left they will have to be axed.If I sell these backI'll have enough to complete 2 branches of combat medic and make a branch and 1/2 of pistoleer. From what I've calculated I believe we all have enough skill pointsto complete 3 full grids plus part of a 4th.
I'm hoping to be a solid pistol toting *master* combat doctorLOL.
Oshimo - Master Doctor/Novice Pistoleer/Novice Combat Medic - Ahazi Server
Pistoleer here. I won't have the points to master it, but can get about half of it while keeping Survery4 and some basic scout skills.
If I were doing it over again I would go Doc/TKA if it's possible.
