Thread: Consent for Buffing
Well, since all the rational forums have been closed, I thought I'd post here:
Is there a possibility to DENY _ALL_ healing and buffing from everyone else except myself?
I've been stealth buffed by a buncha people while getting coffee or similar minute-away afk activity without my consent, asking or needing.
What happens is a clueless moron comes to me, buffs me for 100-200 and the only way for me to get rid of it is either to find a master doc who can kill me and revive me or just go thru the cloning, wasting me time and money.
I know aspiring doctors try to get experience, but this is plain wrong. They are not helping anyone but harassing those that are getting ready to actually do something.
/Rant.

Primarily look at the Gameplay section for issue #7.
I don't know of anyway to "deny heal" similar to the Entertainer's /denyservice command, but I agree on the STEALTH BUFF issue. Most people I see buffing usually ask the person. "Hey, can I buff you for XP ?" This is cool is my book, but to buff someone for 100-200 points thenhave that person stuck with that for 10-15 mins, whatever the timeframe is pretty crummy.
Now to be fair, I do "stealth heal" wounds/damage, to people who are probably AFK or outside the med center, waiting for the shuttle, etc. But I have never gotten a complaint, but if someone doesn't like this I would sure like to hear about it.
It could also be used as a grief tactic. Let's say you are in Imperial raiding Anchorhead and waiting for your own Doc to buff you up with Master Doc applied D-buffs. What if some covert Rebel Doc ran out there with a low-level med droid and low power, but high duration, buffs that they applied to everyone they could. That would definitely put a crimp in the plans of those Imps, sure, but it would also be griefing the heck out of them.
So that is why it might be a bad thing to get a buff.
Zarlor, I hate to say this, but what you described is an often used PvP tactic.
The only way to aviod it, is to have your own buffs running already, but I know that more than a few times when I was doing city defense (covert) that the opposing force would hit everyone of us they saw crossing the field from our clone center to our med center with a crappy buff.
It was little more than an inconvience, but it did force the Doc we had doing buffs and healing in the med center to be burning his mind rezzing us after we did the duels amongst each other, to get rid of the unwanted buff. From a strategy viewpoint, it was highly effective, adding a good 3 or 4 minutes to how long it took to get back out there in battle ready form, which was exactly what the "other side" wanted to happen.
Considering we were duking it out with them at the time (and of course, we didn't actually have to be, almost all of us were Covert, but they were being a nuisance in our town) I won't go so far as to call this tactic griefing, like I would when people are drive-by buffing at a starport. It's just yet another gameplay issue that will eventually be fixed, and until then, if you find some doc doing this, have a talk with them about simple alternatives such as buffing and storing a non CH pet, and explain exactly why so many people object to "free buffs" without thier consent. This is one case where I think a little information would go a long way, since I know I would aviod paying any Doc for buffs, who had stealth buffed me in the past.

I'm relatively new, so excuse my ignorance, but why would somebody not want a buff?
Thanks.
Zarlor,
Thanks for the reply. As I have only done PvE so far, I didn't even think of the PvP tactics that you mentioned. Makes sense now.
Thanks.
Docs should NOT be allowed to strip buffs. It is hard enough to buff a long line of customers waiting for their buffs. I can only imagine how many people would be asking you to rebuff their stats till they get a "perfect" buff. Enhance packs are hard enough to make and/or expensive to make and I am not going to be burning them on people wanting a buff redone. Even if they tip me extra, it would take time away from my next customer who is patiently waiting their turn. Nope, docs should not be able to strip buffs.
