Thread: Faction problems with healing

Ok this has most likely already been discussed but here I go. I am a new Doctor and have had some problems healing Rebels. It will give me the message that I probably should not heal this person. I am currently a nutral player. Now as a doctor, I feel I should be able to heal anyone. I guess my questions are:

1) shouldn't I be able to heal anyone that isn't blatantly wearing a rebel patch on there arm and telling me DOWN WITH THE IMPERIUM becase really, please, we all look normal when we come to the med center.

2) how can (if it is posiable) I get to a point where I can heal everyone.

Thanks in advance

Oh it gets better than this. Tonight I as a covert imperial at the time, was unable to heal my friend who is also an imperial, and was also covert at the time. It was lovely

No, you will never be able to heal everyone.

This is to preserve the distinction between being neutral and being mercenary. Neutral parties don't participate in the conflict and are thus not subject to being targeted by either side. Mercenaries take the side of the current high bidder and are thus subject to being targeted by everyone. It can be a problem, but from a role-playing sense this works: many people join causes to help their friends.

Well there are bugs where someone without a faction willincorrectly show opposing faction and you cannot heal and trade. Fighting certain NPCs seems to trigger it, though I'm not sure exactly how to reproduce.I've had this happen lots, requiring both of us to relog before we can interact.

Understandable about overt's not being healed. But honestly, if we are talking roleplay I should have no idea that someone is rebel or imperial if they are covert. That being said, it should be only overts that I can't heal due to blantant faction. I am not even sure the whole " it is advised against healing this person" message should be there. I should just not be able to heal the person like I can't heal the overts. This is just amble ramblings not really a gripe. I usually have plenty of nutrals to heal

This is just stupid imo, if I'm nuetral I should be able to heal who ever I want.. I'm a DOCTOR.

If some rebel has a hole in his chest I should be able to revive him if I choice to and same goes for Imperials.

What should happen is you get faction points for healing and if you get x number of faction points then you can be attacked be the other group, or something like that.

There should not be any limit on who I can and can not heal. There is no reason roleplaying that would stop me from keeping my oath of being a Doctor.

In times of war historicly doctor's healed and took care of enemy soliders.

Another note:

People who duel have some sort of no-heal flag set on them, that persists for a period of time after the duel is complete. I think the reason for this is to make sure duels are fought on a level playing field. Otherwise, if one of you has a hidden doctor friend nearby......

Generally, the only time doctors heal soldiers from the opposing force is when the soldiers are POWs. There are, of course, exceptions. The Red Cross comes to mind, but again, they refuse to take sides and heal both equally. Since we can't expect l33t bois to maintain anything a principled dedication to neutrality, there are rules to prevent blatant exploitation, like an Imperial hiring a neutral medic for some PvP action.

Imagine the scene. We've got a "one on one" duel, right? Kind of. Mr. Imperial has hired a medic for half an hour, and since medics are chronically poor, that shouldn't be too expensive. Now all he has to do is stand there and play attrition with his opponent. Now being neutral, the medic is immune to attack by the Rebel. Pretty underhanded, no?

I found a related exploit the other day, completely by accident. I was in a group that consisted of three people, two of us Rebels, the other neutral. We were taking on an Imperial base for a destroy. My Rebel parter got killed, and I was incapacitated. Now our neutral friend ran up and started talking to the Imperial who was walking over to deathblow me. They talked for a long time. Long enough for me to get to my feet and shoot the Imperial in the head, ending the fight. Allowing neutral medics to heal factioned characters would amount to the same thing.

I've been getting reports of what seem to be "secondary TEFS" where people are getting TEFS from non reb/imp NPC's.

happened to me last night when 1 of my 2 chars was attacked by a thug... I could not heal him, even after engaging the thug myself.

Valkyryn, what kind of doc would do that? I certanly wouldn't.

all I want is for neutral docs to be able to heal coverts on either side, because the only way I know they are factioned is when I try to heal and fail, (btw, for most of the docs, this is very frustrating, there is nothing worse than to feel helpless when other players are in danger.

the exploit you stated wasn't a big deal, distraction is the best way to defend your comrads.

Actually you can heal coverts but only if they don't have the invisible TEF =/.

If i had voice I would create a "combat flag" preventing recently fighting players from entering a med center. In return I would turn med centers as "non combat zone" and make every overt going to covert so neutral medics can heal everyone. Of course nobody should be able to fight in here but duels should really go to the street and not the med center.

This argument just goes round and round forever. Listen, folks - it's a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Neither the Hippocratic Oath, nor the Geneva Convention for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded and Sick in Armed Forces in the Field have been written yet (not that Emperor "Wipe Them Out, All OfThem"Palpatine would ratify that hippy-dippy rubbish anyways).

SWG PVP is a competitive game, with teams. If you're neutral it means you have made the choice not to play. If you want to heal PVPers, join up. If you have chosen neutral, then you are neutral, and that means you can't intervene to help either side.

shadok, I'm glad to see that someone else recognizes the distinction between "neutral" and "mercenary".
