Thread: Random Idea

I've knocked back a few Jack & Cokes, so bear with me. I was trying to think of what a Squad Leader actually is, and what a Squad Leader would actually be required to do. What I thought of is that one of the Squad Leader's fundamental purposes is Coordination. A group of independently existing individuals cannot act as a whole without a coordinating mechanism. So a random idea that came into my head, as a way of further implimenting and integrating this function, would be a Send Target command.

There is a simplesystem involved in theway combat works in SWGwhich includes three pools (obviously, health, action, mind), and three ranged weapons, each corresponding to a different pool. Different people on a battlefield would be dominant in a particular pool. So the Healer, who relies heavily on Mind (or Action? I forget), should be attacked with Rifle Head Shot (or Carbine Leg Shot if it's Action) to effectively incapacitate him and weaken his role in the battle. So you can see how it could be important for someone to be monitoring a battle to see who is doing what and how they should best be taken care of. I believe Squad Leader would be good for this.

The way it would work is instead of a universal targetting command like Volley Fire, you would be able to target someone/something and use a command to send the target to a single member of your group. Then that target becomes that person's (and that person's alone) target. I think this would give a Squad Leader more of an actual role IN combat, instead of just being something that gives decent bonuses and fails at special moves a lot.

But what do you think? Is this something that an SL could just as easily do with oral commands? Like "Hey Desdar, Head Shotthat guy Mikra Nar'ath, near the center"? Do you think it would be an unnecessary luxury? Do you think it would give the Squad Leader too much control over his Squad? How much control is too much? Would a Squad Leader really be much of a leader if he didn't have somedegree of control or authority over his group? What do YOU really think a Squad Leader's main goal or purpose is? How could this purpose best be implimented into the SL profession? Lot's of issues come out of this that could resurface in other areas. If anything, it'll hopefullybe something that better ideascan generate from. So brainstorm!

I think this sounds good, but is way too complicated to micromanage, and the group would be doing it anyway if it's effective (i.e. it doesn't make sense for a rifleman to be ordered to attack the mind). The way combat works, it's likely over very quickly anyway with no time for very specific orders. Sysmsg could be used to give these commands most effectively anyway (i.e. healthshot the guy in the middle, mindshot the guy on the right).

Squad Leader would be much more viable if they could time special attacks by group members to go at the same time, because special attacks are really where the effective group attack strategies are. My idea for that would be a freeze abilitywhere the squad leader would prevent any queued actions from going through. All the group members would queue up their combat moves, and then the squad leader would lift the freeze and all the opening shots would go off simultaneously.

Also, whatever the Squad Leader has targeted should show up in a special highlighted color to group members, and they should be able to do a /assist without attacking to get the squad leader's target.

As I fell asleep last night I had a bizarre and random doc idea...

I wish to be able to issue a sick note to patients! The length of this sick note would be determined by the amount of battle fatigue they have sustained...

The sick note can be redeemed by the player at any rebel or imperial recruiter in exchange for an 'on-leave' pass...

This pass can be used by the player any time, any where, to make him/herself 'on-leave'

I know it's nothing mega, no idea why I dreamed it up but I thought I'd share it
