I'm debating on Doctor or Combat Medic. I wanted to see if the Doctor class is viable in the field, in groups, as a healer. Also, which class has the poisons? Thanks in advance!

Doctors are VERY viable in the field. It's a little difficult because you need to get close to someone in order to heal them, but they're still very useful. Besides, a combat medic can't revive a fallen player.

However, the poisons belong to the combat medic (although the remedy for a posion belongs to the doctor).

We're just as viable in the field as CMs. Doctors have the rez ability which, when tackling the high end MOBs, comes in really handy in a group situation.

CMs have the poisons/diseases. That along with their area heals make them(in theory) as viable(if not moreso) then doctors.

However, seems that the way to go would be either Mastering CM for the high-level area heals/poisons/diseases and simply taking Doctor to Wound Treatment IV for the Rez Ability...or Mastering Doc and simply taking CM skills for range and effectiveness.

Or Mastering Both.

choice is yours

Doctors and medics are perfectly viable in the field. If you don't like to move, you can always just wait for the guys who don't want to run to you for a heal to get incapped, drag them to you and heal them then.

CM's can poisen people which is fantastic in the field because it's hard to find a doc who can remedy it. I have seen it take down many raid attempts. Imps use it alot to.

As for Doc's we are very viable because we can resusitate people. Also if you have a SMART team they will run to you when they need a heal, NOT the other way around.

Being a doc is to much fun! Only good way to make money though is to verbal let them know you expect money and charge for services.. or sell a lot of stim b's to novice medic's who are also some crazy awsume commando or something and can afford a 50k crate of stim's.

if you just want to be a pure support player in the best possible respect, master both. thats what i've done and let me tell you, its fun. its ironic that a master doc/cm is more valuable to a group as a whole than a squad leader is currently, but thats the way of the game. both docs and CMs are extremely good bonuses to a group. if you want to pick one or the other my only question is: who is going to be your tank? creatures or people? if you want to use people as tanks, go Doc as the buffs will be necessary, if you're using creatures, i'd prolly say to go with CM. its all a matter of playstyle really...

Ranged healing is a gimmick. I don't understand what they were talking about in beta about the need for "bacta grenades" because "everyone is running around".

Nobody runs around. They either confuse the creature by surrounding it and shooting from all sides, or they use pets, or if you're lucky they use a brawler class to tank.

In any of these cases, ranged healing is totally unncessary, you just walk up to the guy you need to heal and heal him. The real benefit of the CM are mind poisons and their Grief Machine disease attacks.

I don't see ranged healing as a gimmick, I see it as a great tool that I prefer over my Doc Stims.

Many a time I've been 30m away from someone and, without any Exploration skills it would take me time to run up the incline to them only to have them fall in battle and the aggro transferred to me since I was closest.

Ranged heal? I stand there, toss a grenade, and everything is fine

As a MD/MCM, I can tell you I tend to favor my doctor side a smidgin more right now. The buffs and the reviveare just too useful.

I've made a few poisons and diseases but the effectiveness left a lot to be desired. Plus,I haven't done much PVP (yet) so the MCM side hasn't really come into its own.

Just last night, I was group with a couple of people working on their character. Revives were very useful that night. Being able to massively heal myself is good. More than once, they commented on "the two warriors go down and the doctor has to save the day".

Ranged Healing and AoE heals are about all I have done in the CM line, and while they are pretty darn helpful, if I dropped one, I'd drop the CM.

(plus there is more money in making buffs and stimpacks than CM items)

I can't speak for PvP, but I love the doc with my Power hammer. I have lowered my Health and Action so I could max my mind. I keep an emergency supply of Muon Gold in a quickkey. I usually am one of the last to die even when surrounded by rancors. I get up close and personal as a tank and back off and heal when I get low. It is great fun. Docs just plain rock..

I have two characters on the same server (I know, call me sick). I have a BH(2,4,4,1) and a Doctor(3,3,4,3).

I found if you go to the "hot spots" like Endor where there are always large groups hunting and hire yourself out to the group for 1-2k a person. I've done this and made lots of "mad" money. I heal pets, players and even pets. If someone doesn't pay up..they don't get healed or revived (business is business and my resources cost money). I've never had anyone not pay though. Actually, they love the idea..they don't have to use their stims or worry about the cloning center. Ok, you have to keep your wits about you in a large group and many aggro's, but that's the fun and excitement that feeds the rush!!

Being a Dr. is a lot more fun right now since they are or have nerfed the BH into a Day Care Sitters position.

Go doctors!!!
