My goal with this toon is to be able to split time between medical centers and crafting packs for my use and to sell. I would like to eventually have a thriving business, and would finance myself mainly from harvesting and selling resources and selling packs. I will likely be buying the advanced components from another vendor as I will have nill for battle skill and will have trouble with the Lok runs, etc. If I find that this isn't possible I will end up harvesting all of the dangerous resources myself. I want to open a shop with around three vendors that are regularly stocked. I plan to go up one branch of the CM tree soley for crafting CM packs. Here is my proposed template:

Master Medic

Marksmen: 0 0 0 4 (again only to open CM for the crafting)

Artisan: 0 0 4 4(if that is the right order, basically all business and surveying)

Master Doctor

Combat Medic: 0 0 0 4(I believe that is the crafting branch)

Merchant: 0 0 3 0(or whatever the vendorbranch is)

I'm not looking for alternate suggestions, just more or less pros/cons from those of you that may have gone a similar path and wether or not this will get me my goals.

Thanks in advance!

Hey newceasar, nice to see a fellow merchant/Doctor. I myself am on the way to mastering both. I had the same mindset you do regarding establishing a med crafting buisness. Its hard for Docs to make money and this solved my problems.

I took a little different route than you did though. I didnt bother dabbling in Combat Medic at all. The reasons? Well first I wanted to have more combat skills as I am covert and do dabble in the war now and then. If i remained nuetral all the time it would get boring for me. So I am advancing up pistoller tree. The other main reason is Im finding that I am making quite a bit of money just selling quality stim ds, bs and advanced med components.

It really depends on what you want to do. If you stay as apure crafter and buisnessman then your setup is ok, but if you want some combat you might have to make changes.

Main thing is do what makes you happy in the game

If you truely want to sell to everyone stay neutral - it looks like you don't want to do much PvP anyway. It sure would stink to be stocking your vendor, have a TEF, and be killed. Of course you could ban that player in the future...

I know you said not to give you modifications but I can't help it - I would add one branch of the marksman tree - surrender it later if you wish - but it will helpyou climb the combat exp MUCH faster.

well, that will let you make master doc stuff, and let you make most CM stuff while having a vendor. If you have a vendor it doesnt really matter too much which faction you join. people can buy off your vendor regardless.

i'd almoast rather go master doc/master cm and find a friend or a guild member that can run a vendor for you... that would be ideal. although most CMs wont buy packs since we have to be masters to use the good ones anyway. the Doc market is way more viable imo, but people still do buy ranged Cs and Ds and the occasional poison B.

sounds like a good plan

Thanks for the input folks.

I guess I should have stated that that would be my final template. Currently I have medic, marksmen and scout. I am doing pistols so I can make cash, and of course build up the ranged portion of the marksmen tree for the CM pre-req. This definitley won't be my combat character, nor will I miss out because I have a commando/smuggler on Sunrunner.

I definitley want to keep(once I get them) merch skills, because when I started this character it was with the idea of owning a shop as that seemed very appealing to me. I couldn't decide what to go with at first, then decided on the medicines as I can be more interactive being a master doc, and I did enjoy med crafting with my commando(who was previously almost a master BE). At that time though, I really had a low understanding of how to make quality packs, and I am looking forward to the challenge. I may end up buying the advanced components if it ends up being that resource runs on Lok, etc are too dangerous for a low(and eventually un)skilled combat toon. I was able to find someone on Ahazia that sells the components, so I will have to determine what would be best.

If I may also ask, what does it take to turn my shop into a hospital? I believe it is possible but I have very limited experience with SWG housing. I have seen some nice setups with some out-of-inventory stimpacks(at least I believe they were) that gave the appearance of IVs, etc. I think this would be something I would like to look at also, but not certain how to do it.

Thanks again folks!

Actually, remaining neutral can be a real hindrance on a businessperson. I know this seems silly, but it is. I'll give you some examples from my time selling medical supplies.

I wanted to own a business selling pharmaceuticals and therefore thought it would be best to simply remain neutral. This works fine as long as you do everything through your vendor. However, I found it necessary to do a lot of first hand trading with folks. Sometimes I needed to deliver things, sometimes I didn't want to drop a crate of stims in my vendor because I was afraid someone else would buy them and the person that ordered them wouldn't get them, etc. Regardless, I do a lot of my dealings person to person.

Well, the way the systemis set up, if you're neutral, you can trade only with people that are also neutral or covert and don't currently have a TEF. Well, that's fine but it can be a real pain to cross two planets to meet someone only to find out that they're overt and you can't give them what you came to give them.

By making yourself covert on one side of the civil war, you actually open up more trading. Let's say you become a covert rebel. You can now trade with people that are neutral, coverts from either side (including Imperials as long as they don't have a TEF) and overt rebels. So, now, you actually have less of a problem trading wth folks.

The only thing to be careful about is the dreaded TEF that you didn't know about. I've never had it happen to me, but it's possible to heal someone from your side that's covert and has a TEF and, bam, you've got your own little TEF without ever knowing about it. However, like I said, this has never been an issue for me.

I just thought I'd share my experience with you regarding this. I think it's dumb, but that's the way it works. Remaining neutral actually makes life harder.

One other question:

Do you find it better as a doctor to remain neutral, or to take up one side of the GCW? I don't want to hurt my business but I am not sure if there are disadvantagous to staying neutral.

Master Merchant/ Master doc here with Novice marksmen and rifle 1

Out of points at that point.

I am leader of my pa so I do all the public sales for the clan. We are imps so when its time to pvp I heal and ress and buff. My rifle only does a small amount of damage but I do have a nice pet that once buffed up is a beast. He has over 4k ham and bites for a good amount.

So my pet is my weapon really. But my main action in the game is support. I keep people on their feet and cure off the nasty bleeds, poison and disease. Of course until people notice me reviving and then reaslise I am a doc and I become everyones top target.

But until that time I have tons of fun
