Thread: Real Life Doctors Heal All Factions
In the US Army, Doctors treat the most wounded regardless of what nation they are from. At Civilian hospitols, doctors will treat a wounded bank robber. In SWG, a covert Medic often can't heal a covert of an opposing faction because of an unseen TEF. This needs to be fixed ASAP.
"It would be unwise..."
get rid of it
I agree that Neutral medics should be able to heal any faction, but obviously without exploit.
Once a player has signed up to a faction I think that you shouldn't be allowed to heal the opposite faction.
The only way it would work to have any doctor healing anyone would be to give them the warning message and pop up a box telling them that if they say yes and heal them they will gain a TEF and be vulnerable to attack by the opposing faction of the player they are healing.
If they do this idea at all, which personally I don't think they would, my option above would be the only way it would work correctly. As if you just let anyone heal anyone without gaining a TEF what would stop someone having a pocket neutral doctor following them around in pvp healing them with no worries that the doctor can die. So if you died just use your pocket doctor to revive you, etc....
Limit the change to wound healing only. Perhaps even limited to within a med center.
This isn't even true in real life.
You are thinking of Doctors with U.S. mentality.
If you are doctor for evil empire where your familly would be all rounded up and shot for healing "enemy of state" like Iraq, some of current S. Africa or many other countried where there is an evil "emperor" who help absolute control, don't expect much treatment medical treatment until that doctor have called the police.
Even then they will only save your life long enough to torture you for information.
If you doubt me, ask any POW in Vietnam or WWII Pacific theatre (US vs Japan).
Doctors we have are great. Bless every one of them. But human history tell us otherwise.
The smaller the black bars, the more someone else can heal the white ones.
TEFs should have a warning... it has been mentioned to be generally worked on (no ETA).
Neutral not being able to heal coverts/ TEFed coverts is a protection for neutrals. Neutrals are ALWAYS protected from PVP, and actions that can create PVP (even accidentaly). On the reverse, they are also prevented from effectively allowing PVP people to cheat, by having an un-killable healer around.
Neutrals are not part of te CGW... period... by being neutral that have declared non-involvement... no risk of death, no unfairly affecting the people looking for fair PVP.
Coverts are people that want the choice... PVP sometimes, no PVP others, they can affect the CGW, and people take part (with the risk of a TEF and getting killed)... again.. .eventually we will be gettign a TEF warning of sometime, of some type. Coverts can heal the most groups (everyone but opposite overts).. but may get a TEF.
Overts are looking to kill/get killed.
Neutrals healing whomever they want damages the PVP system. There is no NEED for neutral to heal Overts / TEFd coverts.. If you say XP... then you ate being shortsighted... Healing XP is plentiful, and one of the fastest XP types in the game. What will you do when you are maxed on med XP?
Real life doctors heal those with a lot of money or healthcare cards... In SWG people demand to be healed for free.
You can't have everything. If you wanna heal a PVP + person, you have to risk PVP.. or else you spoil the game for other PVP people. There are games with unkillable healers... what fun is that? Overall balance is far more important then a few stray XP points.
This topic comes up about 1 time a week, or every 2 weeks. Nobody ever comes up with an actual reason besides 1.) I want to, or 2.) we should be able to (with no evidence of proof), 3.) Some dubious reference to real life that talks about 1 case, and ignores 47 conflicting cases.
Think hard.
1.)Why do you want to? What do you gain? (XP is a bad reason; RP is not good enough to spoil a game system.)
2.) What do Overts /TEF'd Coverts gain (not just the healing).
3.) How do you offset PVP cheating (wound healing can and does affect PVP combat).
4.) How do you protect neutrals from PVP, while still answering #3.
Can you think of something, that handles these cases better than the current system?

As you said. There been one of this topic weekly.
One of better ideas I've seen are "santuary" type idea where you take one of those dozens of building in each city which nobody ever use, and turn it into "temple" or "Santuary" or what ever.
No one with TEF/RTEF can enter, and healer must be in the temple for 10 min before they can declair as "resident".
Any resident healer can heal anyone there and when you exit the santuary you can't PvP for 10 min.
I think there were several loophole with this but I can't seem to remember what they were, but they weren't all that serious from what I remember.
I don't always agree with him, but he can really present his case well.
