Thread: Making Medical Centers viable places to conduct medical business

One thing that has bothered me for a long time as a doctor and even as a medic is the lack of use of the medical centers for healing and buffing and basically performing the normal routine of the medical proffessions. It seems to me that they have turned into places for tumbling acts for grinding exp and that's about it. Master Doctors are hawking their business in the streets like any two-bit peddlar would and I think that really degrades the profession and wastes the great buildings the devs have made for our profession to use. Not only that, but it adds to the huge amount of traffic and lag in and around the heavily-travelled starports.

I would really like to see a change to that, but it won't happen with the way things are right now. Currentlya 110 medical droid makes it possible to get a better buff or heal on the street than you can in a medical center. That just doesn't make sense. The solution to that I think is to implement the following:

1. Make it possible to call outdroidsin a medical center (only those with medical ratings).

2. If you use a 110 medical droid in the Medical Center you would get an additional +5-+10 boost to healing/wound skills over and above what the droid would give you if you used it outside on the street.

While this won't make a HUGE change in buffs and such , it might be enough of an incentive for doctors to move their practices back to the medical centers and off the streets. If players become aware that they can get a better buff in the med center than they can a starport parking lot, they will probably be happy to travel the few extra meters to get to the doctors who areconduting business where they should be.

I personally think this is a great idea! I avoid buffing the masses like they're the plague, "hi, how much are your buffs?...WHAT? That guy over there is charging 8k, why are you charging 12k?!?! God what an **edit**, you think you can raise your prices for the hell of it? I'm giving you my money so I should decide how much!"...and so on so forth. ANYWAY, I've always thought it a shame that med centers aren't used to their full potential either, but what the real reasoning behind it is that competition will rule all. Some doctors will go back to the med center to get better buffs, but majority will stay right outside the starport so that the lazy people of this game (I'm lazy too) won't have to go searching in the medcenters. It's just something we have to deal with .

This is a great idea! I remeber back in the launch days when the medical center was very heavily used. I say just make buffing in the medical center better than droids, period. If buffed in the medical center, make the buffs 100-150 better than they are on the streets with the droid.

Yeah but if you raise the buffs that much then there's the argument that the game will get even EASIER (I'm not even master sword and my friend and I killed 10 krayts last night...sometimes each solo'ing one). Then the mechanics would need to be fixed, yada yada yada. It's all politics I tell you!

I am a Droid Engineer.. and I would support the idea of nurfing droids and make medical centers and player hospitals have more benefit. It makes more sence especially to the RP value. It just looks wrong for docs to be 'treating' people in front of a starport.

In my opinion, beyond porting business off the streets to the Medical Facilities, allowing the Doctor healing to earn a salary, an income similar to the enhancements given to the Image Designer profession.

I have noticed there are very few patients with polite overtones these days and more with “heal please….heal me!” mentalities. My reply, and aptly so, has been in recent “credits please”. Of course a statement like that from my character inevitably invites questions as to why charge for healing.

Thus, the only known economies for Doctors are enhancements and the sale of medicines because they are peddled the most. This is not necessarily a sad state of affairs but certainly I would like to derive income from more than tumbling because I have ranged 4 as a Master Combat Med.

I do enhance occasionally and only in the MedicalCenter as I do not yet own a 110 med droid.Because of a lack of income as a Master Doctor, I have resorted to charging for heals and just won’t utilize medical packs when grinders are around knowing they can use the xp.

Having a Master doctor / Master combat Medic character named Oz’ Ozoovo in a nice, clean Doctor’s outfit he tumbles away on Bloodfin in the Coronet Medical Center gradually increasing his bank account to purchase resources and a droid.

Do I agree there should be incentive for Medical professionals to return home? Sure!Interesting to note that one need not tumble in the medical center for someone else to gain medical experience and it can be done out in the open, away from a Medical Center. I have yet to understand why so many congregate in the Med Ctr to tumble and heal, my character included, but trends have a way to begin and persist.

nah you just set the cap lower on how good buffs can get...it's really an easy fix.

additionally, I'd like to see a single vendor placable by the master doc only in THEIRmed center. With the merchant fix coming this is becoming more and more of an issue.

This is why I'm suggesting only a minor benefit from being in a med center, but perhaps enough of an incentive to make them useful again. I would also hate to see sales drop on medical droids which is why I included them as part of the "fix". With a combination of the droid and the medical center working together, it makes sense that there would be a boost to thebuff/heal.

And from what I understand, buffs are probablygoing to get nerfed anyways, so why not incorporate this idea with that nerf and make medical centers a place of commerce again?

Totally agree with you Xand, was just saying that 100-150 raise in buff power would be nice, but also make the game kinda suck .

Amen to that! I currently have to run to the Mayor, who is a very busy fellow, to administer all the negotiations with my Nurse. It would be very nice if I could do that myself.

I also have resorted to using my son's account as an alternate to place a bulky vendor in my hospitalso I canput up things for sale when the Mayor is unavailable. But my son will be returning home from Iraq soon and I'll probably loose the benefit of using his character when he's back.

In the true spirit of the star wars universe I think that there is one place where buffs would be super-powered....BACTA TANKS! Now i know it's never gonna happen, but how cool would it be to have a player climb into a bacta tank and have animations of the doc fiddling with the controls or something as the buffing process? This is just my idea for the night that I know would never happen, but would totally awesome if it did.
