Thread: Question about HATE

Hi all. I've been off for a long time, and just came back in time for the CU.

I've have time to figure out the basics, including how hate works, more or less, but I do have a question, or rather, I wonder if anyone else has noticed this.

Myself and a friend went to Dath. I am a level 80 (MD/MR/0001 CM). This template is obviously going to create a lot of hate if not used properly, so I try to be careful. My buddy is a MBH working on MP, currently level 58 or so.

We took an enraged rancor mission, went out the layer, and proceeded to kill them. The enraged rancors were all level 81-82. Surrounding the Lair were several other rancor layers, spawing level 65-75 Bulls and normal Enraged. As most of you probably know, a hostile creature of lower level than you usually won't attack . . . you can sometimes stand right beside them and they will ignore you. When we first arrived and started fighting, this held true, the many other rancors in the vicinity ignored us, even when we were engaging more than one Enraged (from our mission lair) and the lasers were blasting.

Now here is where things abruptly went wrong. We had two Enraged Rancors on us, and I noticed my friend was in trouble, his bacta infusion wasn't keeping up with the damage he was taking. So I hit him with thrown bacta, which I knew would probably engender enough hate to pull the rancor he was fighting to me. (As a doc, I could tank both of them as long as was needed.) It worked fine, his rancor came running over to me . . .

and. . .

So did every other rancor within fifty meters or so, which was quite a few. These rancors were NOT from the lair we were fighting, these had all been sitting around scratching their behinds until this point.

To make a long tale slightly longer, a few more level 81's spawned from our mission lair and joined the fray, and my friend ended up taking a dirt nap despite my best efforts to the contrary, and I was now being chased by the motherload of all rancor herd's, so, taking Michael Jackson's advice, I beat it.

Question: Is medical hate supposed to pull creatures from other lairs? Has anyone else had problems with this? Is this working as intended, or is it a bug?

Just wondering.

i noticed this anti-doc behaviour even with non-agro non-social bols at a mission lair. previous non fighting bols started to attack me after a heal.

with the rancors it could also lay in your friends CL. with CL58 there is a chance normal rancors (CL50) will agro him - even if he is has a group level of 80 (the agro con rating is calulated on the chars real CL). it might be that something draw the agro of the surrounding rancors to your friend - and as u were healing him to u. if the rancors started to agro in the moment u healed him its like u inflicted damage to them (50% of heal) which would have put u on the number 1 spot of their hate list.

but as stated above i noticed this "heal will generate hate of non-fighting creatures" before, so it could as well be a bug.

Thanks for the reply, c-mot.

Yeah, now that I think about it, they sure do aggro based on CL, regardless of grouping. Earlier we had been on Lok, (grouped) and standing in the middle of several of Nym's pirates, CL55. Both my friend and I have -5000 Nym faction, but they kept wandering close and thenattacking him and ignoring me. It was really annoying him. I of course, thought it was kinda funny.

So med use even brings hate from non-social, non aggro creatures. Interesting. I'll bear that in mind. I have to say that this really sounds like a bug, though. I mean, I understand Docs shouldn't be able to heal with impunity, but at some point it just becomes ridiculous.

I guess that thrown heals are treated in the same way as area attacks hate wise... i.e. any hostiles withing the affect area of the bacta toss would register you as attacking them!
